The luncheon wai given at the new
home of Mlu Raweon’e mother on
Peachtree road and the attractive
roome were decorated with Chrletmaa
greenery, holly wreathe, etc., with pot
ted plante and ferne.
The congenial party waa seated for
luncheon In the dining room at a
handsomely appointed table having an
a centerpiece a large baaket filled with
brilliant red polnaettla blosaoms, the
handle tied with red ribbon*. The *11-
ver candlesticks held red tapere tipped
with red shades, and the bonbons, etc.,
were In red and white. At each plate
were favor* In the fofin of little Christ
mas trees and drums, and the place
cards were hand painted In polnaettla
blossoms. A delicious luncheon was
served and the affair was one of the
happiest events of the day.
Miss Rawson. the charming young
hostess, was gowned for the occasion In
king’s blue chiffon over satin, the cor
sage trimmed with gold lace.
Miss Elisabeth Rawson wore gray
satin combined with rose colored vel-
aet.
Mrs. Forrest Adair, Jr., the honor
guest, wore a gown of lavender mar
quisette hand painted In purple .pansies

Tuesday at high noon when Mr. Charles
Whitney Dali, of Washington, and Miss
Emily Marshall Maurice, of Athens,
Pa., were' married at Faith chapel, on
Jekyl, the Rev. R. E. Boykin, of St.
Mark’s Episcopal church, this city, of
ficiating. The ceremony waa followed

Clark, daughter of Speaker and Mrs.

week of Mr. and Mrs. John Temple

when President and Mrs. Taft were the
guest* of honor. The president and
Mrs. Taft, accompanied by Major Butt,
arrived a few minutes after 9 o'clock

the representative from Boston, who la
president of the club. They received
the guests for nearly two hours. Major
Butt making the Introductions. Mrs.
Taft wore a striking and becoming
gown of creamy satin brocaded with
velvet roees of American Beauty tints,
made In long straight lines with a
square train. Four hundred guests were
In attendance.
The diplomatic social season opened
In Washington with the advent of four
new ambassadors and nine new minis
ter* Most conspicuous of the new ar
rivals Is His Excellency George Bakh-
raetteff, ambassador from Russia, who
hoa just brought back to these shoree
the American wife whom he wedded at
the capital back In the administration
of President Arthur. He was secretary
of the Russian .legation at the time.
They return to Washington with the
open sesame to a number of mansions

they will meet the wealth of the capi
tal. These are tho homes of John R.
McLean, who married Madame Mme.
Bakhmetleft's sister (nee Emily Beale);
Admiral Dewey, who married Mr. Me,
Lean's sister, and of Mrs. Thomas F.
Walsh, whose daughter married Edwin
B. McLean.
This week marked the return to so
ciety, to a certain 'extent, of Admiral
and lire. George Dewey. Their first
dinner of tho season was given In honor
of the new Russian ambassador and
Mme. Bokhmetle/r. On account of Mrs.
Dewey's health, these most Interesting
hosts have been little known In Wash
ington society for several seasons, and
It was a matter of rejoicing that she Is
able to take her place as the ranking
hostess of the navy, next to the wife of
the secretary.
A number of Southern members of
congress, including Speaker Clark, Rep
resentative Underwood and Represen
tative Clayton, were guests of the
Southern Boclety of New York at
banquet Saturday night. They were
accompanied by their wives.
Representative and Mrs. Clayton, of
Alabama, were the week-end guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Bedelle Parker, of New
York. They were given a box party by
Mrs. Parker.
Senator and Mrs. Tillman returned to
Washington last week from a visit to
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moore, of Atlan
tic City. Mra Moore was Miss Leona
Tillman, daughter of Senator and Mrs.
Tillman.
GRADY HOSPITAL TREE.
Mrs. Gordon Kiser Is arranging a
Christmas tree for the children’s ward
of the Grady hospital, which will be an
event of Saturday, the 24th, at 3
o'clock.
Mrs. Kiser asks that donations of
money, toys or clothe* suitable for
children from a few months to fourteen
years of age, be eent to her at the Geor
gian Terrace hotel.

These affairs have always been very
delightful and have given great pleas

ward* Mra Kiser, as Miss Jennie

by one, and for three or four years Mrs.
English has gotten up the tree alone.
