This ia the greatest bird l but Ima ever spread his wings over this great and glori- oqb country. The place where he builds his nest is called an eyrie, away upon the preci pices where the loot of man cant come, thongh perhaps a boy might. The eagle is a ferocious follow, and Bits on the tops or tbe cliffs and looks sharp for plunder. Uc gets tired of waiting, and then he starts out in tho blue expansiyo heavens, and soars ail around on. his opinions over the land and the water, to sec what he can pounce upon. But though be is called a vory cruel bird, he al ways preyo bofore eating, just like any good moral man at the head of bis family. Uc eats his victuals raw, which is an unfavora ble habit, but it is supposed that he cats so because he likes to. Ho is a very courageous bird, and will flght.iike blazes for his young, and steals chickens wherever lie oan see them He has been known to carry off n yonng ba by to his neat, which seems to show that ea gles love little children. He is a bird of great tallons, and is much respected by birds of the feathered tribe that arc afraid of him. He In a great study for artists, bat appears to boot advantage on tho ten dollar gold pieces and fifty cent pieces, and pretty will on the dime*, as he lits gathering up his ' tfidbdOrboIia under him, as if ho was in a great harry to be off. He has lately broken ont on tbe now cent, and ns if in bis harry he had dropped all bil thunder. The American eagle is tbe patriot's hope and the inspiration of Fourth of Jnly. He soaks through the realms of the poet's fancy, and whets his beak on tbe highest peak of the orator's imngina, tion. He is in the mouth of every pollu tion, so to speak. He is said by them to stand on the liocky Mountains, and to dip bin bill Into the Atlantic, while his tail-casts a shadow on the Pacific coast. This is all gnomon. There never was one more than eight feet long from the tip of one wing to the Up of 'tothor. His angry scream is heard ever so far, and ho don't care a feather for anybody. Take him every way he is an im mense fowl, and bis march is over the monne ting waTe, with the star-spangled banner in bis hand, whistling Yankee Doodle. Hanger of Crinoline—11ns the question ever occurred to ladies wearing the present amplitude of light drapery, expanded by criuoliue, or sort of hoop, what would hap. pcii if the muslin should chance to take fire? None.of the ready expedients for extinguish, ing lire would be avnliable against such a volume of drapery so disposed to flames. The dress could not be gathered ; it is so arran ged as to render that impossible and the ex periment of lying down and rolling in n hearthrug, which saved the life of many a woman before the introduction of the present fashion, would not avail against the resis tance of the stiffened frame of crinoline "or steel, spreading tbe burning surface to the Should ludieJ, lor fashion sake expose themselves to so frightful a risk ? Escape seems impossible if tbe dress lakes fire, in former times, when hoops were worn, the snbstanco of the dress- was seldom of n na ture to ignite. The case is different now, and a spark is enough to sot a muslin dress in a blaze. Jrofessiowi Curds, ^riifiiqcj |styblLsfyi)ei)ls. A T.IIACKirrT.
