ver states that llcv Reuben Gregg, former
pastor of the North Troy Methodist (episco
pal Cliuroh, has been arrested, charged with
the seduction of a young lady at his new
station in Washington county. The seduc
tion was accomplished whilo the wife of Mr.
Gregg was on n visit to her friends, when he
had engaged the services ol the young Indy
as housekeeper. She is but seventeen years
of age, and has always borue u highly re*
spectnlilc name- Mr. Gregg was arrested
while in attendance at a camp meeting in
Sandy Hill, lie gave bonds for tbo support
of au expected heir, and for bid appearance
to stand trial on tbo charge of seduction.

which ho was pastor, and will probably be
expellee! from tile ministry at the next meet
ing of the Troy Confoteoeo.

The St. Louis Herald gives tho following
picture of the times iu that city:
We see the strangest—the must prodigious

some sudden and terrible judgement from
heaven—some awful visitation of God’s
wrath—had come down upon them, like the

of Pompeii, the earthquake that sunk Lisbon,
or the plogun that made grass grow in the
most frequented streets of Loudon, We
scarcely exlggerate. Noconflagration, nor
cholera epidemic, nor inijiendiug lumino, nor
the terrors of an invading enemy iu open
war, could have mode u .worce ebango than
the short'lapse of six weeks hasbrought over
the face of St. Louis. We see a panic fear
und unmanly trepedat'on possess every bos
om and unnerve every hoart. It bos paruly
zed energy and dismayed counsel. The wis
est ate all at onoe at their wit's ends. The
stroogast are as weak as women and suck,
lings. The masses, ignorant of causes nod
frightened by tho potonls, nro os distracted
as If they (eft the world was coming to an
end. Any little store of gold thoy may bavo
is quickly clutched at and buried in the
earth—just as it used to be in the dark ages,
or when a ravaging foe is abroad over tbo
land. It is buried with tho blind footing
that trade and production, and tbo means of
making money and wages arc stopped. Pro.
duction is stopping. Money tnakiug is done
with. Wages will soon be bard to got. And
this mighty moss of evil it aggravated and
t intensified by Iba withdrawal of gold from
