ATLANTA, OCTOBER 31, 1057. Gymnastics In Swedish Schools. Thore are two respects in which the .Swe dish echool system is fur superior to ours.— One is the universal uacbiug of gymnastic exorcises. Every school bull ling’ has its largo, high room, with earthen or nintted floor, and nil sorts of implements for devel oping tho muscles, ladders, polos, wooden, horses, cross-bars up to the roof, jumping .places, ropes for swinging, knotted ropes for olimbiog, Ac. The soholars arc not allowed to exeroise on whi.t they wish, but there is afrogular, scientifically arranged system.— They aro trained in squads, and move and msroh sometimes to music, at the word of command. At a large pnblio school at Stock holm I saw the lads in their noon lessons at gymnastics. The teacher gave tho word, and a doxen sprang out toward a tali pole with cross-bars, and clambering up it, nach hung with bis legs; then again they recove red themselves and lot themselves down.— Another party, one after the other, climbed up a naked mast, another pullod themselves op bend oser hand on a knotted ropo; oth- ore, in succession, played leap-frog over a wooden-borae; they then marched to the beat of the dram. The smaller or weaker boys begin with the lowest grado of exercise, and follow hp, according to a scientific sys tem arranged for health. They all scorn logo into it with the greatest rctieb, end showed well-trained muscular power. I could not bat cooolude tbat tho superior physique of the Swedish men Is not entirely due to cli mate. When will America learn that health and strength have Iheir uneacapablo laws ? A Difficulty Settled, From a card published in the Floridian it* Journal, signed by the Hon. 1), L. Yuleo, we are pleased to lcnrn that a difficulty which had arisen daring the lato canvass be tween Ex-Gov. Broome and D. S. Walker, Esq., has been amioably settled. We giro tho concluding portion of Mr. Yulee’s card: Gov. Broome assured me that he never •uppoeed for a moment that thcro was any violation of integrity or good faith on tho C t of Mr. Walker in the sale of State is made by him as Register to Col Hou*- toon in 1853, and that he had not so charg ed in anything that he has said or written. Ur. Walker in like manner assured me that whatever he bad at any time said or •written id the lout degree offensive to Gov. Broome was said or written under a misap prehension of facts. And thereupon there wu a mutual, cor- dial, and limultaseoua withdrawal, on the part of each gentleman, of whatever had . been said or written, on either aide, at an; time, of an offensive nature. It may he proper to say, in addition, that my Intervention was purely volantary, and alike nnexpeoted by either gentleman. I). L YULEE. An experi ment has been made at Neailly, where a small theatre wu built of wood which had bad this salt applied to it. The boxes on theituido and the scenery had also been painted with it. In order to render the ex periment more eonolusive, the wood was sprinkled over with spirits of turpeotine.— A light was applied, and the whole place wusoon in a blaze and burnt furiously, but when the flames had gone oat, it wu found that not a single part to which the invention had been applied wu in the slightest way injured. Strange Death.—A. tradesman of Lyons, named Laprevotc, wu one day last week pricked on the upper lip by a fly, but, though the little wound caused him some aonoyaoce, be took uo notico of i . After tho fourth day his face swelled up to a gnat height, and a large si re ovne on it. Medical as sistance was of no avail, and two days back be died. It turned out that the liy mmt have inoculated him with a poisonous virus taken from Fomn disoased animal—Galigs nani'e Mceeemjer, MilHcdgttillc and Gordon liailroad.—We learn from the Southern Recorder of the 27th ins:., that tho oars upon this road will run twice u day beginning un Saturday the 31st instaol, to accommodate tboso persons who may wish to visit Milledgevilie daring the sitting of the Legislature—leaving at eleven o'clock A.
