~ Tbs New York Commercial Advertiser
of Saturday gojs :
Tbo week closes with a more choorful as

It for tome time, and a better feeling is eii
dentiy more prevalent in financial circles gen
orally* Tba payments generally are small
er towards the close of a month* which has
of course some effect on the market, but it la
believed th A arrangements have in a great
mcaaurc been completed for the paper rat-
turiog on the 4th of next; month, and it is
even slated in soroo quarters that parties
have been anticipating paper due later In
the month, anddiscoonting it in advance ai
little over the legal rates*
On the other hand there, is still a consid
erable amount of obligati ens to which a r>

The stronger benks arc r?pwten to be do

and preparing themselves to lake their place
in line. The statement node up et the o'oec

Viet t to reports eo industriously circulated
in some other cities, that a large portion of
the abowing of last week, consisted of spe
ctal deposits belonging to depositors ami not
to the banks, was entirely without foun-Ja-
turn in fad. ..... , .
In outside clrcloi there is more doing in
tfce mercantile paper than for some time,
- god fur suoh as can pass the ordeal of care
ful buyers, lower rates of discount prevail.
W* bare heard of some transactions at as
low at ono to one and a half por cent a
month, bat we presume that it would be
more difficult to find much paper of that dc-
•OripUoa to obtain the purchasers for it
when found.
* Tba business at the bank clearance house
coatioue limited, and the average this
week-will'fail considerably below tun mil
lions. To day the exchanges were 89,281,-
26457, and the balance paid 6889.41C 64.
’ J ' Fordgn Exchange has be n in more de
mand this week, end the transaction to
wkrds the close were large and at improviog
price,. ‘The main business was at 103 to
106, with something done at 107.
Bpeclo fit io small demand, and the rates
range at par to one per eent. promium for
American gold. The domestic exchanges

as to violate the lews of the United States
while enjoying hospitality within its limits.

about 3,500 men from various Southern

Walker Kuo Issued an order to the effect
that no person under hit command should

further states that Gen. Walker wilt make
no illegal or warlike expedition, but will
