money, and credit among mannfitolnrata,
which will n enssitata n diminished pro

bor, is a temptation to those who hbro the
capital to go on, and after the first of Janu
ary, it is anticipated that many of the tuann>
facturore in this rioiuity and in the Eastern
States will resume operations, at least par
tially. This will alkrute tha prorailing
distress among oporalirea in mar ufaelnring
towns; when authorities on aach.mattafs
prophecy that cotton will go down yet to
seren cents a pound; in breadstuff* the
probability is there will'be on adranco,

North of Enrop* hare failed during tha;
hurricane which has prevailed then for
some waekt past No one anticipates an
active busiuea in any branch of trade pta-
vious to the opening of the next fall seatton,
as the interior will be deetitute of monoy
and credit until that time. The rapidly ap
proaching period at which the majority of
the extended obligations of city dealers fall
due, will probably.grow a new crop of fail
ures quite equal to those of October, sinco
the suspended houses art borne down by
a load of pretested paper, on which they
cannot poisibly realise more than SO per
cent during tha nut four or fire months.
It will be much more difficult for irrespon
sible dealers to get credits here for the next
two seasons than formerly, for the ^reason
that there will be less competition amoog
sellers of goods. There have been too many
cotton looms in operation, and more than
t hat, the enormous bank expansion
of last season, had encouraged great num-
b> rs ef irrespontible parties to carry on a
large business on a mere apology lor capi
tal. and then concerns, who had every thing
to gain and nothing scarcely to lose, have
been swamped entirely. Menufaetured
goods will bo dispos’d'of much more care
fully than heretofore. Money will be easy
for tho best houses, for the reason that the
number of b rrowers, that is of those who
sre able to bo row, is greatly diminished
Security wdl be the main point of conside
ration with those who have capital to in,
vest, and security is difficult to obtain at
present. The fact that a larger amount of
produce than usual will cotae-forwan
railroad thia winter, owing to the lateness
of the crops, will tend to improve railroad
stocks.
As to amusements, t^e theatres sre well
patronised and several local dramas draw
full houses. Ths performance of Muzarte
Requiem on Saturday, at the Academy, is
expected to prove a great eueeess. Holiday

A moat horrible and unnatural case of
crime is now in preparation for one of the
city courts, which promises la exci.e al
