ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
Friday Morning, Dec. ID, 1868.
Thb Agricultural Mebting To-Day.—
"W e remind oar readers of the meeting which
taken place this afternoon (3^ o’clock) at the
City Hull, for the purpose ot adopting a consti
tution and by-laws for the Agiicultural Club of
Fultou County. We hope to report a lull meet
ing-
Sanitary.—From a printed circular we learn
that a company has been formed in this city
which will contract for the periodical removal
of nightsoil and other offal from the premises ot
our citizens. We presume every good citizen
wiil co-operate with the company in this impor
tant matter.
Wantsd.—Attention is called to the adver
tisement ot Mr. R. M. Rose, who wishes to rent
a dwelling immediately.
Native Talent.—Yesterday we were called
upon to inspect a beautiful piece ot workman
ship at the marble yard of Mr. D. N. Judson.on
Peachtree street. The work ot art which claimed
our attention was the tombstone of a deceased
member ot Company C., 5th U. 8. Cavalry, (pri
vate James Nixou), which his comrades-in-arms
purpose erecting to his memory. Just over the
inscription is the representation, in bass-relief, ot
a cavalry soldier mounted upon his charger.
The work is well executed, and reflects great
credit upon the selt-Uught artizan, Mr. Guess,
who is now regularly employed by Mr. Judson.
We take pleasure in calling the attention ot
our readers to this piece ot workmanship lor one
other ica&on than to boast ot Georgia talent, and
that is to commend the chivalrous sentiment ot
the soldiery that thus pays tribute to the mem
ory of one ot tlieir number.
Description of the New Capitol Build
ing.—We notice that seine of our exchanges
credit the description ot the Capitol building,
which we published on Sunday morning, u> this
paper. We copied the article from the Christmas
Present, and so stated in an article just preceding
the aforesaid description. “Honor to whom
tionor is due.”
Auction Sales.—This morning at 10 o’clock,
Col. G. W. Adair will sell eight heavily timber
ed lots on Marietta road and the State Koad,
two and-a-half miles from the city limits. The
sale ol this property was advertised lor yester
day morning, but was postponed to allow sev
eral persons to go and look at the property last
evening. The sale will be at Colonel A.’s of
fice this morning.
Tiiieviis Arrested.—On the night ot the
9th instant Mr. Jesse Dalton, of Oglethorpe
county, entertained a stranger, and awoke the
uexL morning to find that his hospitality had
been rewarded in an unusual manuer. His
guest had departed, aud so hud about ten tliou-
t-aud dollars—speeie and greenbacks. Mr. Dal
ton offered a reward ot fifteen hundred dollars
for the apprehension of the thief and the recov
ery of tue money.
Capt. Tim. Murphey, of the police, force has
been in communication lor several days with
Mr. Dalton. Yesterday, Borne live or six miles
liom the city, arrests were made of two individ
uals upon whom suspicion had rested. One ol
them—named Sims—we learn, has confessed to
lus complicity in the matter. We retrain, lor
the present, giving other particulars of this im
portant capture by our efficient police, ns it is
hoped other.* implicated may also be secured.
The prisoners left last evening on the train tor
Augusta.
Just Received.—Another large lot of those
fine Beaver aud Chinchilla Overcoats. Also,
Dahlia Beaver Suits, with English Walking
Coats, Tricot and French Dahlia Sacks and Eng
lish Walking Coats. A large lot of Youths’ and
Boys’ Clothiug. All of which I had made up

Atlanta, Ga , Dec. IS, 186S. j
To Ilia Excellency Rufus B. Bullock^ Governor,
Atlanta, Georgia :
Sir—I have this day ordered the payment of
tweuly-five thousand ($25,000) dollars into the
Treasury of the State tor the month ot Novem
ber, lbtfS, lrorn the earnings ot the Western &
Atlantic Railroad.
1 am very respectfully your ob’L serv’L,
E. Hulbert, Superintendent.
Chance for a Lawsuit.—Some of these
d.nk nights some unwary pedestriau will tum
ble into the excavation on the vacant lot oppo
site the New Capitol Building,, and if he cornea
out with a broken neck, lractured riba, or dislo
cated joints the city of Atlanta may expect a
suit tor damages. Would it not be a matter ot
economy for the city authorities to order a fence
built about the dangerous place ? There are
other man-traps about the city which it would
be as well to look after. We learn that a few
nighis since a couple of gentlemen, on deeds o!
charity intent, stumbled into the cellar of the
new building on the corner o! Decatur and Ivy
streets. One of the unfortunates is a large man
—weighiug something less than two hundred
pounds—and he ttuuks there should be a door
set to that cellar immediately.
