"An Act to create a Land and Immigration Hu

xiissiokkix, would promote the best interests ol
tlm State, no intelligent individual, we presume,
will duuy. Thu hili ilaell which lias been mini-
tinned, iu its details, aufflclently explains the oh-
jecta to he attained in the creation ol the bureau.
We give place tcNt tills afternoon, to the cxelu
sion ol other mailer, because we conceive it to
he one ol the jnosl important nioitsures that w ill
come before the present Legislature fur its ac
lion, and one which will doubtless command the
early attention of that body. It reads as fol
lows :

thousand dollars per annum, whose office shall
tie at the capital, with power to use an olllcial
seal.-
Skc. 3. It shall lie the duly ol said Chief
Commissioner to supervise and direct all olll
emla connected with tins Bureau of Lriiinigrd-
lion; to prepare such publications as he may
cousider necessary lor a full understanding, at
aud abroad, of the aims ot the Bureau;
and tlm inducements which Georgia oilers to
settlers ami capitalists Irom the Uuilcd Stales
aud from Europe; to cause them to tie printed
in 8tlr.li languages as he Bhall deem necessary ;
to cause the prup.iriilioii of a limp of the State
showing the usual mixtures ol a complete gem
graphical map, geological formation, isothermal
lines, and zones ol the leading staples and most
lmporUut agricultural products; to prepare a
digest of the laws 111 the State touching the
holding and transfer of real estate, and to pro
pare a scliedulo ol the Shite taxation,comparing
the same with such oilier States as lie shall deem
tu offer suitable comparison.
To have sole charge ol the emigration from
the other Slates nl the Union, and in lacililnte
and arrange the settlement ol all such as shall
apply to his otllce; to locate and settle all the
emigrants Irom Europe.
To see that suitable lands are at all limes en
tered on the' books ol his office lor tlm settle-
ment ot toreign and domestic emigrants, by the
landholders ol the Stnte, with terms ol sale or
rent distinctly stated, which terms eumml lie
altered while the lands remain lof settlement on
his books; that no lands shall he received by
him tor settlement, except as are ol his own
knowledge, or by pro|>er vouchers, suitable lor
the settlement ol emigrants; that all liuids en
tered shall he accompanied liy proper descrip
tions, (schedules for which descriptions'he shall
prepare aud lurnisli upon application to land
owners,) and by n survey of such lands ; that he
shall solicit, receive and hold in trust (fee dona
tions ol lands lor cuiigrunl settlers, said litndrf
to have the priority ol scUlomenl over all others
entered on the hooks ol his office; to transmit
from time to time copies ol the land-descrip
tions tu each of the European commissioners ;
to sec that the titles ol such lauds are clear, ami
that such lauds are unencumbered—Die ex|tenses
ot all such descriptions, surveys, and examine
lions ot titles and ol freedom Irom eueuinhraucs,
to he home liy the landholder.
To collect and receive all commission lees lor
the settlement ol lauds, immediately u|hiii the
conclusion of the bargain between immigrant
uud landholder tor the purchase, or lease of
lands; also, the commission lees that may lie
due for the procurement. of agricultural labor
ers, artisans, aud mcctianics, etc., to make regu
lar payments to the toreign agents appointed,
anil domestic agents ho may employ, ol their
shares ol the commission lecr’lo which tlmy may
he emitted.
To establish a Buitajllu Emigrant Landing
Depot in the city ol Savannah, in which' emi
grants, upon their landing, may receive shelter;
io license suitable hoarding house keepers in
that city, who almll agree to Iseinl and eiiterlaiii
emigrants ut n rate nt compensation to haulxed
by him ; to appoint a hank, mercliaiu, or broker
n't whose office the emigrants from abroad nut)
exchange, at current rates, toreign for United

To see that no infectious diseases he brought
