The Agricuitural Department furnishes the
following interesting eatimates of the com and
cotton crops of the past year. They are doubt
less as nearly accurate as tnch statistics usually

This does not include the Pacific Slates, which
are not favorable to the production ot com, but
are a decrease in proportion to the popula

pounds. Sines the October returns were re
ceived, local report! trom cotton sections have
been more favorable, especially In tne South
west, where the resu t, in comparison with the
average planted, ts better than in any preceding
year since the adoption ot tree labo:. Picking
has been unexpectedly prolonged, but the au
tumn was favorable. The e-t mv.e gives the
total product of 338,000,000 pounds, and mis is
