The Senate met at 10 o’clock, pursuant to ad
journment, and was opened with prayer by the
Rev. Dr Brautly.
The roil being called, and there being a quo
rum present, the Secretary read the Journal ol
yesterday.
Mr. Candler moved a re-consideration ol the
action ol Senate on yesterday, namely : “ That
til Secretary of the Senate bo allowed to em
ploy not more than five additional clerks, when
, a _ii clerks shall have been examined y the En
rollment Committee, and recommended by them
asjiuly qualified for the position."
To this Mr. Wooten ottered an amendment:
Provided, that the Secretary be allowed to em
ploy front time to time such-,additional clerks as
a necessary, sunject to the approval of the Sen
ate, which amendment was adopted, and the re
port agreed to. •■'■■v
Mr. Candler made an able speech for recon
sideration, earnestly opposing ad lili >nal . ex
pense by addiug clerks, he could see no work
lor them to do He thought the appointment
would be In opposition to the CoJe, He ventil
ated some of the expenses of the government.
Mr. Speer moved to lay the motion ou the
table. Motion to reconsider lost.
UNFINISHED BCSINESS.
Mr. Wooten spoke in tavor ol referring back
lor turthcr investigation the report of the Joint
committee on the condition of the endorsement
by the State of the bonds ol the Macon & Bruns
wick Railroad. They report! "That they had
examined the books ot that road, and were sat
isfied that the road had fully complied with tue
conditions upon which Slate aid had been
granted that road, and recommended the passage
of a resolution that, In the opinion of the mem
bers of the General Assembly, the Macon &
Brunswick Railroad have complied with the
conditions upon which the Slate endorsed Its
bonds, and that the Governor he requested to
continue said endorsement."
Mr Moon moved that the previous question
bo called. Passed.
Mr. Hinton moved to reler the repirt aud res
olution to the Judiciary Committee. Lost.
Mr. Wooten's resolution came up—To refer
the report buck to tue committee. Lost.
