“Til® Enchanted While Pawn.”
This great spectacle will be presented lor the
first lime in this city this evening. Three cats
containing scenery machinery and baggage
have arrived and carpenters and mechanists
are busy preparing lor the production under the
.supervision of the proprietor Mr. II. F. Whit
man. This spectacle would have been presented
here two weeks since had it not been lor an ar
rangement made with Mr. Templeton to visit
Montgomery, Columbus and Macon, enrolite
from Mobile to ibis city—Mr. Templeton ac
cepting of Mr. Whitman’s terms to produce his
piece in a number n| the Southern towns. The
Theatres Mr. Whitman has visited have been
crowded with I bo elite and fashion as
we learn Iroin our exchanges, and we pre
dict one ol the most sitcccsslul dramatic scenes
our city has ever known during the slay ol this
troupe. "Whitman's t’arisiau Wallet troupe-
headed jby the |rcnoum) rtnhlkc, the graceful
Itian^and oilier premiers together, with Mr.
Whitman’s genrgeous,scuncry, costumes and par-
aplmualia Is such an exhibition us our city has
never belorc seen, and we advise those who wish
good scats to procure them in advauce.
Feusosai..—Mr. 15. F. Whitman, the cele
brateil Metropolitan Theatrical Manager, and
proprietor of the “Enchanted Wlilto Fawn,"
and other spectacles, arrived in this city this
morning, and has taken rooms lor hint6clf ana
lady at the National Hotel.
iloos.—We advise all planters not only to im
prove tiieir lands by fortelizirtg and using the
heat improved implements ot Agriculture, but
also to make every exertion to raise their meat,
we depend pretty much on the Western market;
tho consumption ol bacou lias greet’" increased,
and the raising ot it, decreased. V» -now that
the difficulties attending hog raising have greatly
increased; so too has the price ol meat. Let all
who can, raise their hogs. From the Louisville
papers, we learu that the decrease ol bogs as
compared with last season is 300,000 lioga. The
packing at Chicago is virtually closed with a
tailing oil this 3cnson ot 176,000 hogs.
The scarcity ol meat In this market and its
consequent high price should stimulate meat
raising.
Dokbktt’s Cr.ii’Mi Saloon.—This establish
ment is daily winning popularity. Dorsett has
spared neither time uor money in refitting, paint
ing, aud fixing it up. Ho hits procured the finest
and purest liquors lor his bar, and as to rolreah-
ments for the inner man, they are of a superior
and inviting nature.
A visit to the'above Saloon will cnnviuco any
one, as it most nasurcdly satisfied us, that, to use
a common term, Dorsett “ knows hmv to keep a
hotel."
Mr. Dorsett, we are Imppy to say to his numer
ous Irieuds, lias recovered Irom Ids illness. And
the business will ail tie managed in his usual
efficient tnamier, and conducted by those ever
polite, " emblematical ’’ youths, Messrs. I’ortcr
and Simpson.
We take pleasure in rci'iiinmciiding the above
Saloon to all, particularly those who are visiting,
the city, Wowing Mint our citizens are suffi
ciently posted as to the superior claims ol the
Clipper Saloon.
Tiik Statp, Amticoi/rtmAL Sociktt, at its
late Convention in this city, having asked the
Legislature to appropriate $ 10.000 lor the purpose
of carrying into eilect the Land and Immigration
Hill, now before that body, the billowing table
lias been prepared to show Unit the call lor this
appropriation comes Irom the great body of tax
payers, farmers and planters, of the State, who
were represented in that Convention, and that,
therciorc, it ought to receive a lavorable re
sponse .
