Kkkp Awat I—The curious should endeavor
tori strain their curiosity as much as possible
on occasions like the disturbance, or riot we mav
say, ol Wi dins lay, which occurred in the 5tli
Ward, near the Police station Notwltbslaad
ing much firing atnids. a much crowded popu
lace ia generally attended with more or less se
rious casualty, or, at least, with great danger
yrt, marly every one, actuated by a curiosity to
see what u going on, walks, runs, or flics to the
scene; and should it bn an altercation between
two mrn only, one or the other, as is often Hi
case, will he incited by the mere presence, or
perhaps encouragement ol a crowd of lookers
ou, In strike, out, shoot, or do some othur violent
act. We are credibly 1’ilormed that the old nee
gro Tom, who was shot in Ihe Jractu at the
station house, Wednesday, was not participating
at all in the allair, suit only came up to see what
wa« going on, when lie was accidentally shot
and killed. Our advice is to keep away from
all street lights, rio’s, Ac. The police can gen
erally get along without you,
Wu give place in our columns lor the publi
cation ol tho billowing very interesting docu
ment, found on llio streets by a gentleman, wit >
handed it to us, requesting its publication with
out any polishing whatever, so that tho loser
can, liy recognizing Hie same in print, clip it out
for tuturo leferenee. It iH certainly a ” gem” ol
a letter, and well calculated to arouse ttie len
der loelings ol the lair one t«r Whom it is ud-
d reused :

Kino Leak—DkGivr'b Ofriia House.—
Thursday evening was presented that great
play ‘'King Lear ' Mr. Edwin Forrest, in his
wonderful impersonation of Hut character UiJ
successively amuse, interest, aud awe, tho au
dience. Like a true and accomplished ora'or
he lully contrnllid the passion and fueling ol
ids hearers. In his curse upon Ooncrll, every
heart was (Hied with awe aDd dread—his dis
course to the raging storm was pathetic und en
tertaining. The recognition ol llordelia, very
touching, and in the last scene, the death ot
Cordelia—the acting wasequal in pathos, to the
language ot tlie grealjauthor. It was the most,
sib ctmg scene ol all. Truly, Air' Fornst ia
wondi rlul and the most fluttering encomium—
which it a loo lulsome praise—that we can be
stow on liia woudeiful genius, is, that could
Shakespeare witness his (Forest's) rendition ol
Kiug Lear, Hamlet, etc, he would signify his
entire satisiuction.
Hkuknb.—The city is, as usual, calm and se
rene since the election. No other belligerent
demonstration has occurred since the “ ikrira-
mage" al tbs station house, and ail signs ol the
“late littie unpleasantness" have entirely disap
peared. The unfortunates who sustained inju
ries Irom pistol shots, brick-bats, stones, clubs,
Ac , are all at home nursing their wounds, and,
probably, revenge. "Let up have peace I"
Heady.—The Police station has been supplied
with guns, ammunition, &c., and other muni
tions ol war—minus the big guns -to guard
agaitrst another attack ol a Ircniied mob. Fried-
mru, repair to your business, and do not go
about such a place any more—some gemmans'
nigger git shot.
Hbpbatkhs.—Two ittedmen ate now in du-
runes e.Ie chaiged with having voted too ollen
in the recent eiecliou.and beiug rather lar Irom
Lome to be interested in the Municipal atl urs ot
Aliauta. One ol the paitiea is Irom Gordon
county, the other Irom ltart,ow county.
K rant's Alb Dfj-ot U still prosperous, a»d
Just as popular a place ot resort for flue Uqu rs
cigars, Ac., as can be ioutid in our enuutry auy-
where. Polite and accommodating young men
aro always there to do the agreeable tor you.
Everything is conducted In a prompt, busiuesa-
llkc rnauuer.
Out or Sottrs.—A youth, with a huckleberry
looking countenance and chevauxdcfrlt ce Lair,
created a little home-made tun, yesterday alter-
noon, by swearing, cavorting and cutting up
generally; but, upon the approach rf a “knight
ot tbe baton," he precipitately fled, turgctiiug
all bis ill humor.
To-hiout Is the last night ol the distinguished
Fomal'e engagement in this city tor tho season.
Do not tail to see the very aflecliug and in-
MrucUog play ol Damou and C, Hu as, lo-uight.
