Hbubamal.—TUo ladies of the Memorial

leaux at the City Uali lost evening. We learn
they propose lo glvo one of their select enter
tainments very soon, probably Thursday or Fri
day night, at the DuGIve’s Opera House. Wo
bo-peak lor them a success in evory respoct.
Thhmont Uoosb.—That popular maiion dc
villc has recently changed Its management, and
is now conducted by Mrs. S. M. Btaloy. it la
bcnutiluily located on Marietta street, near the
Capitol, and is lurnished with all the modern
conveniences and appointments peculiar to a
flrst-claBs hotel lor the accommodation ol tran
sient and regular boarders.
Catholic Band.—We asked lor information
concerning the prospects ol that new enter
prise; whether It would be allowed to fall
through, &c., and we are pleased to ascertain
Irom aomo one who subscribes bimseli “A Mem
her,' 1 that they are prospering in the cause of
organizing, equipping, &c, and only require
the aid ol the citizens to a modest degree to
have their Instruments paid lor and be practi
cing. We sincerely hope they may succeed.
We hereby oiler our assistance.
Miss Adelatob PniLLtPs.—We are assured
that this distinguished opera artiste will appear
in this city next Saturday night Tbe city is
now being posted. lu connection with this
announcement, wo would say If satislactpry
arrangements can be perfected, Miss Sophie
Worrell will contluue on her pleasing and
popular burlesque uutll Thursday night, in
order that the iuimltublo and wonderful Loon
may have a benefit; It so, on that event, look
out lor a lull houio. Bo mote it bo.
ZnuONt.—We have received a copy ol that in
tcreatlng work by Sir Bulwer Lytton, and fiud
written upon tbo title page the following aim
pie and beautiful superscription: “ With kind
remembrance ol the giver. II. H. W.” We
promise Mr. W. to give Z >uoni a carelul perusal,
and probably may, then lo safely and carefully
lay tbo treasured gilt away, and wo further
promise to keep his image ever present in our
memory; bis present friendship shall bo as a
green spot ou memory's pages to which we
shall ever loudly recur and onr prayers shnll
attend him in Uis brilliant career as an onut,
where’er destiny may direct him.
Tiro Courts.—Proceedings of the Supreme
Court can t>« seen Dy relerence lo the opposite
page, where it is reported specially lor the In-
TKM.IOKNCKR.
Juaneros Courts.—Justice Bmltb will be en
gaged in a hearing to-dny, ol which mcntioD
has been made, with reference to money having
been stolen at tbe National llotcl about the first
of the month.
Thu other Justices may have been busy or
not, we know not. At least, we know there
weru no new cases present at his Honor, the
Mayor’s Court, yesterday, wliiuli Is au evidence
ot a great fulllug oil ol lawlessness generally.
Wsaro glad to learn that our enterprising
firm, A. C. Ladd & Co., have -brought to this
market the ‘‘Authroclte Coal.” It Is such men
as this that builds up a city. Let our people
show their appreciation by a liberal patronage.
Ovbrtaken at Last.—About Iho first of tbo
month, a certain copper-colored boy in the
employ of Mr. Pond, at the National, succeeded
in extracting a sum ot money, $310, from tbe
sale in the office, which money had been de
posited by a transient boarder lor safe keeping.
No clue to the robber or tbe plan ol bis suc
cessful scheme could he obtained, notwitk
standing the affair was kept profoundly secret
by all parties intereattrd it. the detection of the
thiol, Ac. At last, M. L. E. Northrop, the effi
cient clerk then connected with the hotel, ob
tained sufficient information from a temporary
resident at the hotel to lead to lurthar inquiry
and investigation. The usual tormsot law were
observed, and a search made in the house of the
abovo mentioned negro, which led to his con
viction, arrest, aud the recovery ol a watch and
chain valued at $51, clothes $24, aud $100 In
currency. The rest ol the money Dad been
squander* d, and probably will not tie recovered
at all. Air. Northrop tins conducted the inves
tigation with greut skill, and deserves much
credit os a detective.

Tub Worubua-AUsIo, or The Merry
Bwkt Boy, was presented last evening to so
other largo : audience. The character or Miss
Sophie Worrells and company# performance
has bad a tendency to attract larger aud more
appreciative audiences each night since her en
gagement at the Opera House, aud lull well
that merited popularity was sustained in the
rendition ol Alcsio, The Unfortunate, and Let
Mo Be, last evening.
Miss Bophio impersonated Alesio in her
characteristic, pleasing and vivacious style, al
ways greeted with applause upon entering the
stage, and through such scene her roUieJuuuic
and good humored pcrlormanco had a controll
ing influence over the icelings ol her audience.
Amina, Tho Village Beauty, was represented
by Mr. Harry Wood, add lo say his conception
ol ttie character in burlesque was good, is
hardly a just compliment lo his talent and
ability as an artist. Mr. Wood is not cnly
lavorably known in the rendition ol characters
in burlesque, throughout the South, but has
moulded uu enviable reputation in legitimate
drama, comedy, Ac. He has impersonated
Laertes in Booth's Hamlet, eliciting tbe
praise oi that great actor and the encomiums of
the press and audiences, not only as Laortes,
but in other difficult characters of his role and
supporting other celebrated stars. However,
his flue conception ot tbe female character can
not be overlooked wbilo supporting bo popular
and incongruously tuuuy a burlcsquer as Miss
Sophie Worrell.
Mrs. Sheldon, as a Virtuous Feasant, is ad
mirable, and Miss L-mg, as Liza, was truly fas
cinating in her pcrlormaucc, and possessed of a
becoming debonair.
Hernandez, and Leon Brothers, are practi
cally line qua non in their varied performance
always producing the most convulsive laughter.
We trust satislaclory arrangements can be per
fected lor a continuation of tho popular per
formance of Miss Bophle and company until
Thursday ey-.-uing next, feeling assured they
will succeed as usual.
