A Good Move We see in the Council pro-

little importance to the citizens of Atlanta, and
should he .-iltended to by all means, as there
are several urchins, botli male and female, in
the city, who hang around the streets and have
no othei mi uns of gelling a living save by beg

The extensive nse of theee watches lor the last fine
rears by Railway Conductors, Engineers, and Express
men, tbe most exact Ing ol watch-wearers, has thoroughly
demons'rated the strength, durability and accuracy of
the Waltham Watch. To satisfy that class In all these
respects. Is to decide the question as to the real value ol
these time-keepers.
More than 450,000 of these watches are now
speaking for themselves in the pockets of lb o people—a
proof and a guarantee of their superiority over all ether*.
The superior organization and great extent of the
Company’s Works at Waltham, enable them to produce
watches at a price which renders competition futile,
and those who bay any other watch, merely pay from
26 to SO per cent, more for their watches than is necessary
We are now selling Waltham Watches at less .prices
In greenbacks, than the gold prices before the war.
There is no other manafactnre of any kind in the
United States of which this can be said.
These time-pieces combine every Improvement that
a long experience has proved ol real practical nse.
Having had the refusal oi nearly every invention in
watchmaking originating in this country or in Europe,
only those were finally adopted which severe testing by
the most skillful artisans in oar works, and long nse on
the part of the public, demonstrated to be essential to
correct and enduring time-keeping.
Among the many improvements we wontd partten -
1 arize ;
Toe Invention and nse of a centre-pinion of peculiar
construction, to prevent damage to the train by the
Dreakage of main springs. Is original with the American
Watch Company, who, having had the refusal of all
other contrivances, adopted Fogg’s Patent pinion as
being the best and faultless.
Hardened and tempered hair springs, now universally
admitted by watchmakers to be the beat, are used In eU
grades of Waltham Watches.
All Waltham Watches have dust-proof caps, protect
ing the movements from dost and lessening the necessi
ty of the frequent cleaning necessary in other watches.
Our new patent stem-winder, or keyless watch. Is
already a decided success and a great improvement on
any stem-winding watch in ths American market, and
by far the cheapest watch of Its quality now offered to
the public. To those living in portions of the United
States where watchmakers do not abound, watches with
tbe above mentioned improvements which tend to
Insure accuracy, cleanliness, durability and convenience,
mast prove Invaluable.
Every watch guaranteed by the Company.
To prevent imposition, buyers should see that every
watch should bear eithei of the following trade marks

Lightning Eodi and Electrical Correnta,
As the season for electrical currents, and eeddeata
resulting to unprotected dwellings from thunder storms,
approaches, the following letter from Dr. A. Means, of
Oxford, Ga., will be of interest:
IOxfobd, Ga., June 6.18T0,
The undersigned has examined ths Rsybnra A Hunter
Co OD er Lightning Rods, furnished to ths public by
mtaLc. Ladd, and regards them aa well suited to the
purr oses intended, and if properly introduced into the
Birth, and especially ii applied to as many prominent
a d exposed points of the building os possible, as con
stituting an excellent safeguard against electric dis
charges occurring near the place of their erection. The
interior irou rod, upon which the Copper sheeting is
laid, gives strength and firmness to resist flexor*, while
th- utter overlying metal affords a conducting surface
up' which the electric fluid passes much more freely and
rtip.dly than iron, viz: ui the ratio OI 12 to SJS.
Tim epirt.1 aud fluted form of the red are both fevorabi*
tu a ready traaemlssion of the current—the Anting
affurdtngmoie conducting surface by nearly one-tenth
ot au luch than a solid rod whose circumference wonl^
just correspond to that ot a ring, through which tit*
present rod would pass. Th* firm attachment ot its ear*
eral segiments. by well-fitting screws slid its terminal
p-'r.ts. Lvorably correspond to effect security. The
leading laws which control Atmospheric Electricity
teeoito nave been consulted in its construction; and
all ordinary cases, the fluid uuder the gu dance of such
conductor should pass off harmlessly, te icgain its dis
turbed equilibrium.
