Her small, moss-covered cabin, wrapped with the wild-rose and honeysuckle, appeared nia away by a ol aster of under growth, and closely environed un tne north and east by a deep, craggy ravine that led away oaca to the moun tain gorge. Her sniffling the ambient air, wafted from nature’s green sward clinging to the mountain side, bathing her brow in early morn’s gentle dewdrop, she lived solitary and alone for many long years. The caiamonnt’s un earthly midnight yell, and the wolf’s doiefoi howl, fre quently aroused her from pleasant midnight slumbers. Now and then she would emerge from ner unknown home and mingle with the indaoitants arouud about for one or two months at a time, she was eccentric in her acts and ail viewed her as a living curiosity. While from home, she apparently nad but one object, and that was the relief of her afflicted sex. Under a belt on the left side, coaid be seen an oid fashioned dirk of considerable size, carried for her own protection, while strapped across her snonider was suspended a cu rious sack made from the SKINS OF RABBITS AND RACCOONS Arranged in alternate stripes. This bag contained some Oid parchment, cations relics, a few lignt garments, and a smaller sack containing a coarse power made irom certain roots known only to herself, the secret of whicn she ciung to as with the tenacity ol death. She sallied forth from her wild mountain home, to act the Good Samaritan, with this unknown vegetable powder, which she claimed possessed a wonderful power over all disea ses incident to the female sex. She termed it “ womb physic,” with which she proposed to cure ail affections and derangements oi that organ, and kindred com plaints free oi charge. W ith such singular magic did she relieve all who applied, that within a lew years her name and fame becama known far anu wide, anu hun dreds of suffering females applied for relief and returned to their homes healthy ana happy. Many were anxious to know her great secret, ana large shins oi money were offered ii she would divulge it -bat she stubborn ly refused. During her solitary life she became intimate with only one woman, a noted midwife some miles distant, to whom she promised to DIVULGE HER SECRET Before dying. In a few years, as the fsombre shades night began to close around her tottering frame, she imparted this £reat secret to this friend. ^ ^ She too gained quite a reputation for relieving the suffering of her sex, and strange it may appear—she gircely ever failed to cure those old enrome femalt K plaints that had resisted ail ordinary modes of treat ment. Many years ago, the writer ot tfts, while en gaged In the practice ol medicine, by a little strategy, succeeded in procuring the secret oi this wounderiul vegetable Regulator, which had never been known to the Medical Frolession. He gave it a fair and impartial trial in the treatment of various forms and stages of female complaints with s nen decided satisfaction, that in I860 he called public attention to its virtues in Gross’ Medico Chlrnrgkal Review. Combined with other known vegetableTonics, having great power over the uterine organs ; with Black Root to act upon the liver and bowels, and Soluble Citrate ol Iron to correct the blood, he has formed a wonderful combination for the cure of all Female CompJaintB, con sidering it the only Female Regulator known, and now offers this valuable compound to the afflicted lemale, nnder the name ot ENGLISH FEMALE BITTERS, The Medical Profession at large, have long felt the need of such a medicine, consequently it is not strange that they so eagerly prescribe and recommend these triers to their lemale patients. If yon could see the pile of smiling appt ovals and en comiums Irom physicians and the public who have cured their daughters, their wives, and their friends, by the use of these bitters, no sickly lemale would hesitate to use them. This Female Regulator is adapted lor old, young, married or single females, who are affected with acute or chronic forms of Uterine derangements. They cure painlul, suppressed, scanty, profuse or irregular Menstruation, Chlorosis or Green Sickness, Fluor Aibus or Whites, Hysterics, Falling of the Womb, Ulceration and Irratabil’ty of the Womb, pain in tne side, back or loins, sick Headache, palpitation or fluttering of the Heart, hurried breathing, swimming oi the head, cold Feet and Hands, loss ot Appetite, indigestu n, torpid Liver, Melancholly, Nervousness, Wakemlness, Barren ness, physical Prostration, etc. Many oi these are re- ieved bv the p«» rf only one bottle. THE LIVER AND STOMACH Are thoroughly aroused and restored to a healthy action, by the nse of these Bitters. Its peculiar Iron and Vege table combination, places it lar ahead of any similar preparation before the public. Females, after confinement and convalescents from any debilitating complaint, who remain weak and lee- ble, with little or no appetite, are at once aroused and strengthened by their nse. As a Family To; ic ior men, women and childaen. it has no equal. Ode tablespoon- ini contains more medical properties, than one bottle of any ot the-common and pleasant “ dilate alcohol ” bot- ters, to be found all over the country. When the manu facturers of the common beverages of the day say they cure all diseases, they well know they are “ pulling the wool ” oner your eyes, and laugh at your stupidity in beinQ so easily hnmbngged whenever the article smacks of whiskp. If yon really desire a valuable Iron and Ve getable Tonic ror yourself and family, one bottle of E. F. B. will last longer and do more good than one dozen of the ordinary “ grog shop ” bitters, as one tablespoon ful in water, is sufficient ior a whole family. As A FEMALE REGULATOR, II li A 15 .
