the People of the Cherokee
Circuit:
I resp xtfully call attention to
Ftii anony - ous circular which is be
ing seatt -red over the circuit and
published in the Dalton papers,
commenting upon and containing
the body of a letter written by my
tvo years ago* The comment is
false and m.ili ions and I hope it
will deeei.e no one. I did not use
the word “bo :zers” nor did I
characterize tlu>;e who voted
against me as “bo dbrs 77 but did
sp clriracte/ize the ‘'gang 77 who,
over the protest of myself and
friends, called that only and sepa
rate primary. Tile words

sent out the “Ixa.ze and boodle 77
some of whom are now sending out
the circular. Cf those who v oted

great many good men opposed me,
and many o!‘ them did so on the
mistaken ilm that Gordon L e
was entitled to a second term and
and for them I have the kindest
feelings. 77
Of those who voted for me I
said “I hope that the good people
of the district who stood by me so
loyally will never regret having
done so, and they have my pro
found and lasting gratitude. 77
I do not suppose that my oppo
nent is any more responsible for
the circular than li. is for his can
candidacy. E have forced him to
admit on the stump that he tried
to get others to run against me,
and, failing in this he is running,
as he* says, because I have been
unfair to one Cannon and others
of his clients, including the rail
road, which of itself should defeat
him. The people know that I
have been faithful, impartial and
efficient, and will not be deceived
by the selfish cries ot “unfaiy 77 and
“long enough. 77
My race is in fine shape, and it
now looks like I will be re-elected
by an increased majo ity, but I
ask my friends to l>e on the alert
and as active as they well can. I
will carry Bartow, Gor lon, Catoo
sa and Dade counti s; my oppo
nent will carry \\ bitfield county,
and Murray county is doubtful.
Indications are that my majority
in the circuit will be between
twelve and fifteen hundred.
Very truly yours,
A. AY. Fiti\
Dade County Sentinel,
Trenton, Ga.
Gentlemen :
We learn that Judge Fite has
been sending to papers of the cir
cuit this week a communication in
in regard to,the statement he once
made about booze and boodle.
If you have received this card
and are going to publish same
would thank you very much to
also print the enclosed at regular
rates under same if possible and
mail me bill to cover. Thanking
you for your kind attention in the
matter. Yours truly,
S. B. Felker, Chairm.
In order that the readers of this
paper may judge whether or not
Judge Fite’s position in his famous
“booze and boodle” card has been
correctly set out we herewith print
the card as originally published by
Judge Fite just after his defeat by
Mr. Lee two years ago. It wili be
noted that, he charges expressly
that the leaders of the fight against
him in the Cherokee circuit were
criminals and that they defeated
him by the unlimited use of booze
and boodle. He acquits the voters
outside of the Cherokee circuit of
such conduct, stating in his card
that he doesn’t know what the con
ditions were elsewhere. By con
fining his charge to his own * home
folks he makes it piain that he re
ferred to them, and not to the
people of the seventh district gen
erally.
We have no doubt the judve has
frequently and bitterly regretted
his uncalled for uim? inexcusable
insult to his former supporters
but we do not think that the deni
al of plain statements and unman
ly abuse of individuals will seive
liis present purpose of palliating
the wrong d-me thfm. It is an
unusual spectacle that b ir minded
people will not enjoy to hear the
judge of their Superior court des
cending to unkind comments upon
citizens who have been litigants in
liis court merely because they are
exercising their rights as Ameri
can citizens to vote as they plea.-e.
The following is Judge F te’s
card as originally published by
him in the papers < f the circuit
’wo years ag>:
1 have been robbed by the gang
and beaten by “boodle” and “hood
iers” but have the consolation of
having made a good fight, not hav
ing spent one cent or furnished
one drop ot whiskey t> infiu ice a
single vote. I would have been
nominated had the primary been
called at the proper time and in
ihe usual way, and this the ‘‘gang’’
anew, and h m e decided to rob me
f rhe nomination, and the SSOO
extra expense of holding a sepa
rate primary. Alter that 1 had hut
little hope of success, but. I deter
mined to make the fight, and go
down amid the firing of the guns,
r.i' her than surrender.
The criminal element, with an
utdimited supply of *'booze” and
‘ “boodle” led the fights against me
in the Cherokee circuit* bui I dont
know how it was elsewhere in the
distiict. 1 warn die people of the
state now that the same methods
will he used to defeat Hoke Smith
or governor. Of course a great
many good men opposed me and
many of them did so on the mis
taken idea that (Jordon Lee was
entitled to a second term and for
them I have the kindliest feelings.
I hope that the good people of
the district who stootf by me so
loyally will never regret having
done so and they have my pro
found grati u g A. \V. FITE.
