Death of Prof. Jacoway. When a most untimely oral cm me to tlie career of J. G. Jmowny on lust Saturday morning there disap peared from the home and Iron the circle of friends which ho-li.id gathered about him in th:s city, one of the noblest men with whom G<ml has ever blessed any commu nity. He was a man in all that it takes to make a perfect man, clean and white all the way through. In lie in bool looni where his duty lay he was t-vi r kind and gentle, yet st ict m that discipline so essen tial to the proper conduct of the pupils whose future was entrusted to ids care and training, He will he sadly missed on the streets where his pleasant smile and hearty handshake are so familiar •o men who esteem- and him as a man -iltd as a friend. His nis wife and little daughter were .vorthv of eonime t. He was a nm>t devuted husband and fathe mil h ! 8 tender care of his little • laughter wiil ever he a blessed memory to those who knew and loved him. At the moment he was shot down be had his little larling in his arms and was dry ing away her tears where she had been fretting for her *‘papoo.” This sad tragedy i* the third which has come into tlie life ol Mrs. Jacoway, she having lost a husband in a railway accident and a son who was accidently shot and killed. The remains of Mr. Jacoway will be carri'd to lay to his old home at Trenton, Ga., for inter* me tit and will be accompanied by Sam C. He portrayed his life there as being such as only of God’s noblemen can live and de livered a message from the people of Paris gratifying and consoling in the extreme. We say thank God for such a message. After Mr. Johnston concluded his remarks Col. Ben T. Brock a life long friend and neighbor of the deceased, and paid a beau tiful tribute to his memory. Col. Brock was very much affected by the occasion and fully showed, as he stated, that lie felt more like weeping than speaking, but suc ceeded in expressing his appreci ation of the man as a comrade in life and showing his grief of the loss by the deplorable end of his illustrious friend. Mr. Brock was followed by Esq. John M. Cantrell of Rising Fawn who is an Odd Fellow and was acting as presiding officer on the occasion. Mr. Cantrell concluded the ceremonies with touching and sympathizing remarks v which showed that lie felt deeply the great loss occasioned by the un timely death of his friend and brother. FLORAL OFFERING. The floral offering was one of the most grogeous and numerous that lias been made here in a num ber of years. Theie were designs from four organizations to which Prof. Jacoway belonged from Paris Texas, and many from personal friends and local lodges. There were a wagon load ’of them and still many offerings on the trains yesterday. * ~ MRS. JACOWAY. Mrs. Jacoway was ill at ‘the time ot the death of her husband and the shock and long trip from Paris has completely exhausted her. Her condition is not consid ered serious, but she is very weak and it will be several days before she will be able to overcome her afflictions. Miss Campbell and Mr. Johntson will start on their return trip to Paris tomorrow. The preliminary trial of Long which was set for Wednesday was posponed until tomorrow. \Ve regret it very much but for unavoidable reasons the above had to be cut short. The announcement of Geo. YY r . Street for Tax Collector first ap peared in last weeks issue, but owing to lack of space we could not give his announcement the usual prominence due. Mr, Street is a man well known to this county as a high tone Christian gentleman and good citizen. He is in every way worth and well qualified to administer the duties of the office of Tax Collector if elected. Avery pathetic letter this week to her sister from Mrs. Eb McMa han formerly Miss Mai lie Brock gives a graphic description of the Dallas flood. Mr. and Mrs. McMa han resided just across the Trinity river from Dallas. Awakening in the night it was discovered, that water was entering the house. Mr . McMahan was compelled to wade through water to her arms for safety. The whole house was soon submerged and a large hog remained for hours on the comb of the kitchen. Poultry, furniture clothing and stock was all lost except some val uable horses which were swam out of the flood. Mr. McMahan swam a horse back to the house in order to recover his wifes rings and other jewelry, which he did, but in re turning came near drowning and last the bag containing them. Many more families are in the same state of destitution. FOR TAX COLLECTOR. We are authorized to announce the name of W. P- Pace for re-election to Hie office of Taj Collector OBiIUARY In Memory of Mary E. Bibb. Sister Bible was born June 4th, 1838, in the year LSGS. She found Christ as her Saviour and joined Cl overdale church in which she lived a faithful and eonsistant member until the day of her death. In life she was very industrious. Her love for honesty and upright ness could not be excelled. No one ever visited her home so poor or illiterate that she could not ex tend a hearty welcome and set be fore them the bot she had. She had a motherly love and tender ness for the.children, a sympatiz ing heart for the suffering, a word of comfort for the sorrowing and a word of encouragement and hope for the despairing. To know her was to love her. Npfhing gave her more concern than to think she had failed in some way to discharge her duty. Her chief delight was in the ser vice ot her Lord. Iler life ap proached the sublime. Her char acter was as pure and spotless as the lily. Her life was an honoring monument to the parents who reared her. The good works of her life will never fully be known until they are read from the record of God where he has kept them all in re serve for her. Her life we commend not only to her children but to everyone. Be it resolved, That in the death of Sister Bible that Cloverdale chvirch has lost one of its most faithful members, the community one of its best citizens and the hus band a true and loving wife. Bister Bible and Bister Lumpkin joined the army of their Lord to fight for Him. They faithfully and fearlessly faced the enemy. Battle after battle they fought. They conquered. And in the bat® ties front, with honors floating over them they fell, they died. No they fell not, but were lifted by ’the hand of their loving Saviour for whom they had fought and were placed in the realms of the Para Use of God, neither did they die but today they live, live, live, to adorn the kingdom of their Lord.
