Passenger Agent Samuel G. Hatch lias
announced that the Illinois Central
Railway company has decided not to
allow the-t ale of liquor on any'of its
diners or buffet cars south cf the Ohio
river. “There are so many local op
tion states along our road,” he said,
“that we have .decided not to permit
the sale of any intoxicating drinks on
our trains south of the Ohio. Texas
has had a law similar to that of Louisi
ana in force for some tin e, and its ef
fect., I understand, has been beneficial
to all concerned.”

conferred the decoration of an officer
of the Legion of Honor on the follow
ing Americans: Walter McEwan, of
Chicago, the artist, and Paul W. Bart
lett, the sculptor of New York. The
order of Chevalier in the Legion of
Honor has been conferred upon Alex- j
ander T. Mason, president of the New
York branch cf the Alliance Fran
chiser; Dr. Charges A. L. Reed, of

der, of New York, and Alexander
