KILLED BY HIS BROTHER.
Fatal Difficulty Over a Mule Occurs
Near Atlanta.
Atlanta, Jul 28.—-Monday on the
Magazine road, just beyond the city
stcckade, John T. Lancaster, a steam
litter, thirty-four years of age, shot
through the heart and almost instant
ly tided his brother, Neal Lancaster,
aged twenty-seven years, after a quar
lel of some days’ duration.
The latter died in a lew moments,
and the former boarded an incoming
car and gave himself up to the police.
The fratricide grew out of the de
sire on the part of the elder Lan
caster to sell a mule owned jointly by
the brothers. Neal Lancaster did not.
desire the sale. A fight *as engaged
in Saturday night at the corner of
Fort end Decatur streets, and the
brothers thought the affair ended.
Monday morning the trouble was re
newed, however, and resulted in the
death as above stated. The wives
a id several children of the two broth
ers witnessed the tragedy.

the victory by a majority of one vote.
Women and children took part in
a canvass cf votes, marching through
the streets singing hymns and but
tonholing prospective voters. Dells
were tclied all days and brass hands
visited all polling places, the excite
ment and noise ceasing only when
the polls closed.
V/alksr Pleads Guilty.
Hartford, Conn., July 25.—W. F.
Walker, who looted the savings bank
of. New Britain cf more than half a
million dollars worth of securities,
pleaded guilty on four counts of the
indictment in superior court Saturday.
He was sentenced to not less than one
year, ncr more than five years on the
first count, and net more than five
years cn each cf the three other
counts, sentence to take effect on the
expiration of each previous sentence
under tfae indeterminate sentence law.
This will make the entire penalty not
more than twenty years.
Held Up Baggageman.
Kingston, N. Y., July 25 —Two men
held up a baggageman on an Ulster
and Delaware railroad passenger train
between South Gilboa and Stamford.
They helped themselves to the con
tents of the mail pouch, took.the bag
gagemaster’s gold watch and $lB in
cash and jumped from the train as it
slowed down at Stamford and disap
peart and.
Texas Stats Convention.
Joliet, 111., Juiy 25. —J. 11. Ferris,
of the national committee of the first
people's pftrty, announced that the
Texas state convention of the party
will be held at Fort Worth, August
11, to select an electoral ticke for
Watson and Williams.
