Dubuque; lowa, Aug. B.—As iid lived, so was Senator William B. Al lison buried: Saturday, in a manner devoid of all ostentation. Services were held at the residence of the ’dead statesman, and while not of a private character, the limited accommodations of the home permitted only the pres ence of tiie distinguished visiters, and the most intimate friends of the late senator. The services were simple. The Rev. J. T. Bergen, of the West minster Presbyterian church officiated. The interment was private. Ail Dubuque paid silent tribute to’ the memory of Senator Allison. Washington, Aug. 13. messe nger's pouch containing United States government pay checks for nearly two thousand dollars was stolen early last week in front Off thk btttlding oc cupied by the department of com merce and labor according to Chief Wilkie, of the secret service. The pouch was found with the pay checks gone, while Ahe it contain ed was intact, between this city and Alexandria, Va. The identity of the robber is not known. The first intimation that Chief Wil kie received of the theft was on last Saturday when one of the checks for Saturday when one of the checks for 573.33, payable to Ft. F. Troxler, of (he public health and marine ho. pita! service, came through the Riggs Na tional bank, of this city, to the treas ury -department, after having b on cashed by the Lowry National bank of Atlanta, Ga. A check, payable to J. W.. Kerr for $205.83, of the aamo service, was re dved through the American bank of Montgomery, Ala. Next day the pouch was found about half way between Wash ington and Alexandria, Va. The wheel, the pouch and the mail were found, but the pay checks had been ab stracted. The checks payment cm which was ordered stepped, were drawn by Disbursing Clerk W. L.
