P rrt l.oe to g % SWIFT &. tlo s SCS Seventh St, BASK BALL High School Defeat Sons of Rest At Taylor’s park here Friday the Trenton High school defeated the Sons of Rest In one of the best games that has ever been played in tin’s community. The line-up was made up from purelv local t and ent. The High school furnished tor its players, boys from the school only, and played the best team that could possibly be selected from out siders, some of them being first team players, at this place, for sev eral years. The game was very in teresting, and great talent was dis- r played by both te4ms. Nothing but goose egg after goose egg being re gistered up to the sixth inrun vvhen Taylor was allowed to score on an error of Jacoway w, hi6h broke the ice for three more scores for the students during the game, not withstanding an extra elfort of the shade loving oppress to prevent further scoreing. The sports of 'lie shady nooks were allowed to make only two scores which were gained through errors made by wild throwing. The ball never went to t!> safe spot from the hands of the student pit cher, and had it not been for bad throwing by his supporters no scores would have been awarded the loters of shade. The students are very much elated over this victory and the showing made against the Sons of Rest since' two of them, Jacoway and Tatum, play in the Chattanooga City League, and are supposed to be tip-top players. Avenue Bank and Trust Company COMMISIOHER BIBLE Continues His Rounds and Reports on Schools Editors Times: In my 1 ast report the schools were all mentioned ex cept the one at \\>klwood. That school is under the efficient man agement of Miss Pearl Clark, prin cipal, and Miss A nine Lea, assist ant, this is; one of the best schools in the (loimty. It has a good atten dance and is well governed. Miss Ethel Pace, teacher at the Hughes school house, is doing splen did work with her little school. She is a beginer in the science of teach ing, but shows great talent both in the art of governing the childaen and teaching them. Her qualifica tions merit a larger school ’than shs has. Enrollment 17. The school at Pole Pity is under the management of that excelent young man,' Polk ( ole. He has a small school, but is getting along well with it. Polk is ilso a beginer but bids fair of making a fine tea Clrer. Enroll n< lit 17. The Hale’s Ehapel school is in the charge of Miss Nellie Fowler. She is a splendid teacher and the people are well pleased with her and are giving her their hearty support. Enrollment 26. The next school visited Wis tlic color 'd ojie at Hooker It is being taught by Blarney Davis. ' he has a large school with a good att nd ance. She is a good teacher and has the right idea about teaching. The colored people of that com munity were very fortunate in se curing her. Enrollment 17. The New England school is fire sided over by that genial good-fel low, J. C. Austin, who ranks with our best teachers. The people there are well pleased with him. lie has a large school and good attendance While on my trip l was at the Reeves school house, they have a good school taught by Dah Camer on. He is somewnat old fashioned but. teaches the children. How much better-* it would l>e if the people out there would unite and all go to the same school. They have enough children when united to have a splendid school. The school houses in that communiev arc only about one mile apart, it does look to me that they could unite, J know they could if they would only lav r aside selfishness. G. A. R, Bible. C, S. C.
