The Zotwots, the Children’s Friends

From Uncle Remus’s—The Home Magazine for October
A WARNING TO MADJKY MINISTERS
Verse and Picture by R. J. Dean
CONCERNING THE
ZOTWOTS
Th* Zotwots ara an atnlabla
people living war A roundabout,
which is the capital of Every
where. They fill a long-felt want.
For years the “boogerman” and
such fearful things have been
used by grown-ups to frighten
naughty children. In the Zotwots
the children have something with
which to frighten the naughty
crojra-ups. Hereafter, when the
Zpiwots are mentioned, we ex
pert those who arc annoyed by
childish pranks to flee from the
harmless yet sufficient wrath of
the Zotwots. And the Jay-fowl
you will always find on hand—
tho serious, earnest, yet emilful
Jay-fowl—the pet of the Zotwots.

MIS-TRIAL.
I he jury 'made a mis-trial of the
of the S ate vs. .John Long,
j ( barged with the murder of Prof.
Ijohn G Jacoway, at Paris, Texas.
llt will be remembered that Prof.
'
Jacoway Avas shot down without
j warning by the man Long, some
ti me last April. The regular trial
j was not heard until last week, and
j the jury failed to agr .33 on a ver
j diet.
| Judge W. U. Jacoway, his son
George H. Jacoway, father and
brother, Mrs. John G. Jacoway
j wife of the deceased attended the
i trial from this place. They re
turued safely Wednesday.
Judge Jacoway stated, that
there w. s absolutely no legal or
moral excuse offered oa dull (f
th * defen dam at the tri il to in ai y
measure justify his im;s act, and
under the courts charge it was a
case of murder in the li 1 deg cc.
Five of the jury were o lind ng
/
him guilty of murder in the first
degree, which means hanging, five
were for murder in de
gree, which means, wre imprison
ment, and two were for man
slaughter, which means for a term
oi yea s in the pen.

:A. F. Hardy, of East Wilton,
I Main. 25c at a! ; orug stores.
A Preacher quite florid,
Whose sermons were torrid,
Said children disturbed him in church.
The Zotwots, with a grare,
Blinged him snook through the air
And garangued that minister man
With his very own talk,
Till he plightened like chalk,
And clackered with many a blurch.
P. S.
Now the Jay-fowl never does forget
The things the Zotwots do;
For the Jay-fowl is the Zotwots’ pet,
And the Zotwots know it, too*
