Essentials of Music
(Continued from last week)
So large a part of our lives is
spent in a rush and grind,
which eventually dulls our fin¬
er sensibilities and blinds us to
llie better things of life. We
owe it ourselves to take time
for the things for relaxation
and uplift, and among the up¬
lifting agencies, music, as I
see it, certainly cannot rank
lower than the fourth.
Gospel sjnging makes no at-
tempt to instruct us in a way (
o( telling us a story that bus
become unpleasant to the ear. i
It I I Cl simply >V1 >tl ir appeals «k • t • % a .. I ,, t to as the I I* love I . >*r<. '
for the beautiful and excites
the emotions of pleasure. So
then, music will have to he
considered one of, if not the
purest of arts. There are peo¬
ple in the world today to whom
a message in the form of a ser
mon makes no appeal at all,
hut music is a bond between
such people and the world be¬
yond the physical or motal.
And as Carlyle said “it may
lead all of us to the edge of the
iufiinile and let us for mom-
tnls gaze into that.” So let
everyone do his or her part to
bring about more and better
singing.
Let everyone attend the first
meeting of the Dade County
Singing Convention at Tren¬
ton the 4th Sunday in Julv.
If you are self-conceited in
your motive, somebody will
find it out. If your interest is
in the right course, everybody
will find it out. So let every¬
body attend with a light heart,
broad mind and good will to
all singers and listeners, and
by doing so we can assure our
selves of a day of pleasure and
enjoyment. Everyone welcome.

V-President, Dade County
Singing Convention.

I will discuss some of
the things that make up a
church. What I shatl
will apply to rural or ur¬
churches.
A body of people joined to¬
horn again people as
3:3. People who have re¬
been converted and
in harmony.
Knowledge of the WO R D
essential to a strong New
Church. It can’t
served hypodermically hut
must study prayerfully.
1 Loyally a to _ God’s / , l * truths. _ a
makes anything go over.
God never called an idler—
wants busy people. Have
got time for working out
HIS truths? It takes much
our time to be a Christian
fact, 24 hours a day, every
Service is the key word.
says “’come”, then He
“go”; two most signifi¬
of God’s commands.
Consistent Christian liv¬
Living always for the
“We will not have to
that man how he stands
we know his life”. Said a
when a weighty ques
came up. “Ye are the
of the earth.” “Ye are
the light of the world.” The
of every Christian is that of
a surrender life daily,
to Christ.
Faithfulness is ulways need
to build a N.T. church. God
count on faithful mem¬
and so can the pastor.
Lord has promised bless¬
on these faithful few. “Be
thou faithful unto death and
will give thee the crown of
Faithful, if it takes
death, says this verse.
6. In unity there is strength.
(Ps. 133). The first church w as
of one mind and one accord in
one place, and then the first
great revival broke out and 3,
000 were added to the church.
8. Liderality. Under the law
of grace we owe to God the
tenth but more we are not un¬
der the Mosaic law . However,
the tithe came before the life
of Moses. We owe God the ti¬
the. (Matt. 23:23, Mai. 3:10.)
8. Praner. When a church
comes in one accord they are
in a great spirit of prayer.
More things are wrought thru
prayer than the world dreams
of.”
0. Soul winning is the chief
aim of the existance of the
church. How few of us try per¬
sonally to win a lost one to
Christ. Too few. “Come and
follow me and I will make you
fishers of men.” Many souls
are waiting for us to win them
personally. A big farmer said
to me la.-.t Saturday, “Come
to our home and talk to our 18
year old hoy, he is lost, and he
is sick.” He said he could not
hear to think of that son be¬
ing lost and separated in the
from his parents.
As the big Texan prayed and
cried for the lost and sick son.
1 told him that I would be
there as soon as I could. On
arriving, the father and moth¬
er greeted me in confidence.
The son was ready to talk a-
bout the very thing millions
of others are waiting for you
and me t*» speak about. He
said: “Will you read and ex¬
plain the Bible and have pray¬
er with me?” I told him that
I came for that purpose. As
I read the Rook, the big man
in the corner of the room
prayed, the son softened and
pled his case to Christ Jesus
and Jesus did the work. He
was saved, lie wants to join a
church as soon as he can get
to town. Can you win one for
Jesus! Sincerely,
Fred Forester.

James was placed on the

In the “old timers” meet,
Air. Forester was ruled out
