Plaque Commemorates Illinois Citizens
Florence Gray of Chicago, student of the late Lorado Taft, one of
America’s most widely known sculptors, puts the finishing touches on a
plaque commissioned by the citizens of Dwight, 111., to commemorate the
sixtieth anniversary of the Ke’eley institute, and pay honor to the three
men who founded the organization.

It appearing to the Ordinary of said county that the tasabld
values of real estate and personal property of said county, as same*
appears on the Tax Digest for the year 1939, aside from the prop*
erty belonging to the public utilities located in said countty, iff
$970,184.00 and after deducting $429,659.00, which is the total log*
from Homestead and Personal property exemptions, there is a neb
value of $540,525.00 from which is deducted the usual 20 per cenf.

in said county of $432,420.00.
And it further appearing that the personal property belong¬
ing to the public utilities located in said county as furnished by
the Department of Revenue of the State of Georgia is $869,965.00,
making a total valuation of taxable property located in said county
amount to $1,302,385.00.
And it further appearing that $31,482.46 will be required to
pay the necessary expenses and obligations of the County, in¬
cluding County-wide schools thereof for the year 1939.
It is, therefore, ordered that a levy of seventeen mills or
$1.70 on the $100.00 worth of taxable property located in Dade
County, be and the same is hereby levied on every species of tax¬
able property, to pay the incurred indebtedness, necessary running’
expenses and obligations of Dade County for the year 1939; and
the tax of five mills or $0.50 on the $100.00 worth of taxable
property be and the same is hereby levied on every species of
taxable property, both real and personal, for the operation of the
County-wide school system of said county making a total levy for
all general county purposes and County-wide schools of twfinty-
two mills or $2.20 on the $100.00 worth of taxable property in
said county.
It is hereby ordered by the Ordinary that the tax levy as a-
foresaid be, and the same Is hereby levied for the specific pur¬
poses as follows: To pay the legal indebtedness due or to become
due during the year as follows, to-wit:
To provide sinking funds for the second road bond issue, two
mills or $0.20 on the $100.00 worth of taxable property estimated
to raise the sum of $3,312.27; to pay interest on the second road
bond issue, one and seven-tenths mills or $0.17 on the $100.00
worth of taxable property, estimated to rpise the sum of $2,815.-
43; to provide sinking funds for the third road bond issue, one and
eight-tenths mills or $0.18 on the $100.00 worth of taxable prop¬
erty estimated to raise the sum of $2,981.04; to pay interest on
the third road bond issue, one and six-tenths mills or $0.16 on the
$100.00 worth of taxable property estimated to raise the sum of
$2,649.81; and for the working and improvement of the public
roads of said county, and to be used for the purpose of paying the
salaries and wages of employes engaged in working, repairing and
improving the public roads of said county, and for the purchase
of material to be so used, four mills or $0.40 on the $100.00 worth
of taxable property estimated to raise the sum of $5,209.54; to
provide for sinking fund on County-wide school bonds, four-tenths
of one mill or $0.04 on the $100.00 worth of taxable property esti¬
mated to raise the sume of $662.45; to pay the interest on County¬
wide school bonds, five-tenths of one mill or $0.05 on the $100.00
worth of taxable property estimated to raise the sum of $828.07;
to pay the salary of the Solicitor-General of the Cherokee Judicial
Circuit, three-tenths of one mill or $0.03 on the $100.00 worth of
taxable property estimated to raise the sum of $390.72 ; to pay the
salary of the Tax Commissioner as provided by the Act of the
General Assembly of 1937, one and two-tenths mills or $0.12 on
the $100.00 worth of taxable property estimated to raise the sum
of $1,562.86; to pay expenses incurred in supporting the poor of
the county, one-tenth of one mill or $0.01 on the $100.00 worth of
taxable property estimated to raise the sum of $130.24; to pay
Sheriffs, Jailor’s and other officers’ fees, five-tenths of one mill
or $0.05 on the $100.00 worth of taxable property estimated to
raise the sum of $651.19; to pay Coroner, none; to pay expenses of
county for bailiffs, fuel, lights, etc., five-tenths of one mill or
$0.05 on the $100.00 worth of taxable property estimated to raise
the sum of $651.19; to pay Jurors per diem, four-tenths of one
mill or $0.04 on the $100.00 worth of taxable property estimated
to raise the sum of $520.95; to pay other lawful charges against
the county, two mills or $0.20 on the $100.00 worth of taxable
property estimated to raise the sum of $2,604.77.
It is further ordered by the Ordinary that a tax of five mills
or $0.50 on the $100.00 worth of taxable property estimated to
raise the sum of $8,511.93 be, and the same is hereby levied for
the maintenance of the County-wide school system of said county
as per the recommendation of the County Superintendent of
Schools, heretofore attached and made a part hereof.
It is further ordered by the Ordinary that of the tax for the
maintenance of local school district ana for bonds and interest on
bonds of the local school district be, and the same is hereby school levied
on all property, both real and personal, located in said local
districts as follows:
