Ttfs Hot!
It’s hot, oh mercy,
I’m wilted, honest I am;
My energy is burned to a crisp,
Not enough for an epigram,
Th’ flowers are all wilted,
Th’ grass burned brown;
(There’s dust on our street,)
Heat daze in the town!
I saw a butterfly,
Fluttered once, lay down and
died,
There ain’t no water,
The earth all baked and dried!
Phew, there went a breeze!
Must’a been lost!
There ain’t no air, honest,
I can hear eggs sizzling, almost'
A tree frog tried to croak,
He gaped and closed his eyes;
South’s a wonderful place,
As we swelter ’neath sunny
skies!
If’n we can only remember,
How cold the winters are;
[We’re liable to have a fit o’
sneezing,
And have to build a fire!
