What Is The Hope of America?
We are living in a country of
freedom of speech. Everyone
seems to have a solution of the
world’s present conflict, but few
seem to have or even realize the
real solution for the hope of A-
merica. Ministers of the gospel,
professors in our universities;
politicians, statesmen when they
look out upon the world of this
hour and say, “What a world!’’
It has been said by some of our
leading men in years past, that
we were too far advanced in
civilization to ever become en¬
tangled in another war. We are
depending and have tried edu¬
cational means, defense pro¬
gram, fortification, and great
air and sea power, but we have
left off one main and important
fact, that is spiritual under¬
standing. God gave unto this
nation all things in common, in¬
cluding: gold, silver, iron, brass,
food, clothing and thousands of
other things—everything for the
comfort of man. But who is re¬
ceiving thanks? Are we regard¬
ing the God of Heaven in thank¬
ing Him for the blessings He has
given us? Instead, we are forced
to use the blessings that God
has given us for our comfort, for
the destruction of mankind. I
can remember the days in 1918
when mothers and fathers were
kneeling at the alters in
churches begging God to bring
home that son that was on the
battlefront, making all kinds of
promises what they would do if
God woul just answer prayer.
God heard and answered those
prayers, but no sooner than
those boys landed back in A-
merica did those parents forget
their promise. They greeted
their boys with street dancing,
rather than prayer meetings or
day of thanksgiving.
Theaters, - night clubs, road
houses are full. America said
by her actions, “goodby, Lord,
we don’t need you anymore.”
But now we are faced with the
same situation, but much great¬
er than in 1918. Our boys again
are made to suffer, because A-
merica has not heeded the call
to the gospel, but instead has
gone after the ways of Jezebel
her fornication. Now we
made to drink the blood of
her wickedness. We have felt
too secure. We have made the
same mistake that France made.
Marshal Petain said with a
broken spirit, France had to
capitulate to Germany because
too few children, too few allies,
and too much ease. Since our
victory in 1918, and the build¬
ing of the $500,000,000 Maginot
defense line, the spirit of ease
and pleasure and security has
prevailed. We have placed too
much confidence in our material
fortifications, and have not
known the spirit of God.

“I'm going to be frank, Lowery.
Your wife has a bad case of
tuberculosis. Young couples oft¬
en break up like that. I’m sure
neither of you suspected it. Has
she been ill lately?”
“Well, before we moved, she
would go to bed for a day or
two, but got over it.”
“Tim, Lucy has a bad case of
T. B. There is little chance of
her going through it.”
Tim was stunned. The tears
welled up in his eyes.
“Can’t you do something a-
bout it?”
“No, I’m afraid not."
Tim turned blindly away.
Nothing could be done about it.
Two weeks later after he had

didn’t care.
Today the same old sign is

be happy.
