Plans for anew canal rcutc across
the Isthmus of Panama were presented

M and ago route.
The Confederate Veterans Reuuion
to be held at Dallas, Texas in April
promises to be a very interesting occa
sion. We believe that it is nothing but

2:15 train last Sunday afternoon for Ilook
er(the corner spot of Ga., where runaway
couples go to get “spliced”)—even from
ripe old age, down below the “teens!” The
groom is 19 while the bride is 13, thcii
many friends were surprised, to say noth
ing of parents—and the chicks will be
somewhat so, when the honey all drips off'
the moon, and they fly bacK home to their
mothers hovering wing.
Miss Parker of Durham is visiting the
family of Mr. Lige Murphy.
Mrs. R. F-. Tittle was called to Chatta
nooga Monday to see her daughter, Mrs.
R. L. McCollum, who is quite sick.
Mrs. J. J. Anderson returns home after
a weeks visit to her mother’s, .Mrs. R. Ji.

in our midst.
Miss Lula Tittle is home after a visit to

Mr. 11. V. Taylor of New England City,
smiled at us one day not long since, ami
he is the same old boy that used to steal
water melons, and wink at the girls.

trip to Birmingham.
H. B. Kirby of FaFayette, Ga., is stop
ping at the Southern Hotel this weeK.
Dr. B. J. Tripp, who has been seriously
ill on account of an accident to his arm, is
able to resume his practice. One of his
fingers however, remains stiff'as a result of
the accident.
Mr. W. D. B. Chambers of Trenton was
seen in the new studio on Market Street
last weeK; a number of young ladies may
look for a present from him in the near
future.
Mr. Jim Hughes of Morganville moved
to Sherman Heights this week.
Mr. and Mrs. IC. 11. Wade of Aken St.,
are visiting friends and relatives at Sulphur
Springs this week.
A Rapid Transit car from Sherman
Heights, having on board 60 passengers
; collided with a Belt freight train Friday
morning at Henderson’s Switch. No one
was seriously injured, although the car was
dragged some distance from the track by the
freight.
From 6 o’clock Sunday morning till 3
Monday morning there were 6 lire alarms
turned in.
The last one was a call t 0278 Montgomery,
Ave. The grocery stores of Messrs. Hor
ten and J. Q. Tanner 278 were distroved by
the fire. Mr. Horten had a stock of $900.;
insurance $400., and Mr. Tanner’s stocK
was estimated at $2,500, having an insu
rance of about $2,000.

Brock was out last week shaking hands
with friends.
Mr. A. M. Wingfield made a flying trip
to Chattanooga Saturday.
The little folks enjoyed a nice little

ly moved here from Birmingham.
