If the “cannon hall” would only
stop for a signal we would not miss
the accommodation so much.
New England City has raised
$1,200 by subscription for the pur
pose of erecting a church building.
Dade county should be up to the
times and equal to her wants. We
need about two bridges over Look
out creek.
An extra force of deputy mar
shalls will be on duty May 15th
for the sole purpose of taking in
the fellow who comes and loads up
to take in the town.
To the tpllow who wanted to
wait and see who would take out
paper, we would he glad to show
our subscription list only half com
plete.

garded by said merchants, its
not yet desecrated
We will he in a condition to en
joy a Farmers’ Alliance barbecue
next month. With a promise of
all we eould eat we would refrain
from making any speech
Next week our subscribers in
Trenton must get tlipi*’ papers from
the post office, as we have a little
scheme on hand which would not
work otherwise.
Some of our farmers have been
forced to the necessity of using a
s’edge hammer on clods which
without rain have become invul
nerable.
Conductor “Buck” McCallistor
and Mr. P. Nolan, of the A. G. S.
R. R., were in town this week look
ing after their real estate.
Judge Crabtree says his hands
have become so tough from garden
duty that he can’t tell when a fish
bites. “Bee” Austin says it comes
of grioping his fishing pole so
tight.
With thousands of acres of fine
coal now assured, the New Eng
land company may be expectel *o
move ahead in the way of develop
ing their unexcelled mineral prop
erty.
The Rising Fawn furnace is do
better work at present than it has
since its erection. It will average
an output of 112 tons per dav,
this week.
The Dade coal company contem
plate building a railroad from Cole
City to Rising Fawn over which to
ship their coal and coke. It i un
derstood that the road would come
off the mountain neai the Rains
Gap.
Duke Brock while dreaming the
other night that he and Sheriff |
Byrd were after a criminal, jumped
through a window, tearing out the
sash and cutting his foot with the
glass. It took the dog in the back
yard to wake him up.
For those who talk and work
for their county paper, there must
be a bright crown awaiting them
somewhere in the misty future,

us” there will be sulphureous
smokes around this office which
will not. be altogether pleasant to

We would have it understood
that this paper is the county organ
of Dado county, representing no
particular section of Dale county
more than another. Recause Tren
ton is our location (it being the
capitol) should not suggest the
idea m sectionalism.
If there is a man or woman in
this county unable to puv for iheir
county paper, we will gladly send
it free of charge. Hope the fellow
with a ti. ht grip upon his purse
will not impose upon an unsus
pecting nature,
There are numbers of good men
throughou. this co-intv who are
talking up 'he News and working
for it in a manner heretofore un
known. We have them down in
our little hook and whatever inav
betide ns in our efforts they will
still have a warm claim upon our
gratitude which time will not ef
face. >
One of our prominent citizens
says he will guarantee at least
SIO,OOO toward building a railroi!
from Trenton or Rising Fawn to
tap the Nashville road somewhere
near Hooker. President Thomas
has always stated that whenever
such road was needed his company
would build it. Let this matter be
investigated and if the road can
be built, let it be donp by *ll
means.
