The alliancemen of Georgia should profit by the Atlanta Jour nal’s exposition of Lying Fanner Livingston. Will they do it ? Chattanooga is only emphasiz ing her usual pluck and energy by working up a merchants’ steamboat line among her own business men. Trox Bankston should write a book of his travels with the Geor gia Press Association. A country newspaper can’t do the subject jus tice. Editor Shaver, of the Chatta nooga News, is attempting to pose oefore the public as “little inno cence.” He wants to know if pet ticoats are “worn on the side of the head or squarely on the top.” Congressman Everett’s successor to repeesent the “bloody seventh” will he a man opposed to the sub treasury bill or something better.” We guarantee that this prediction will be fullv verified, * Geo. W. Cureton, one of Dade’s popular merchants, was in town Tuesday. —Walker County Messen ger. Yes, George attends all the courts within his jurisdiction. At the alliance convention in Atlanta, Gov. Northen was howled down and out of the body by Liv ingston and his henchmen. Sooner or later the alliancemen of Georgia will discover that in Northen they “throw away a pearl richer than all their tab Mr. E. P. Willis, ex-president of ihe Muscogee Alliance, states on oath that Livingston told him that roven legislators had offered 10 sell out to him for Pat Calhoun. Liv ingston, swears he said no such thing. “You take’s your ehoice.” Every man who opposes the Ocala platform is not an enemy to the alliance, neither is the alli nnceman a traitor who refuses to join the third party movement. The gentlemen who sponted out to us the old quotation, “Thou who are not for us are against us ’ ete. ( wonderfuliy misapplied that old saying, Heretofore it has been custo mary for teachers who bad con tracts to teach public schools, to charge a certain amount per mouth for each scolar crediting each amount with the ‘ free school money” for each scholar The present State School Commisioner says when a teacher contracts to teach a pubric school he must teach for the free money only, unless the patrons voluntarily agree to pay the excess charges. It would then saem that the teacher must teach each scholar entitled to a pro rata share of the free money for what ever amount the county school commisioner may have in his hands ~10 co pro rated to each scholar. The new local road law for Dade county had the effect to stir up our people to renewed energies, and as a result our roads are to-day in bettei condition than ever before. The time is not far distant when Dade’s publie roads will be classed with the best of the roads in the state. Pei hapsthe time shall come when we can drive upon a pike up to an im passable torrent and look across a continuation of our beau tiful road only a few feet away. Then our grand jurymen may come to the conclusion that Dade county should have a few bridges. As the intervening time passes slowly away, this paper will continue to touch up our officials to a pense oi their duty. Trenton as a Health Desert. Eighteen miles from (Jbiitin nooga, situated upon the line of a grand trunk lailroad, hi one of the healthiest sections in North Geor gia; with unsurpassed sulphur, lime, freestone and mi era 1 water; with ample hotel accommodations why should not Trenton be the piost papular suuimer resort within all this seethmV Sickness is lisrUv known in fliipdies who vise o ir sulphur wa ter. For over twenty years a school has been maintained near the sul phur spring, which furnishes the ivater supply, and within all that time never has there been one death among th? students. With this water within a few steps of the Case House that pop ular hotel should be filled from garret to cellar through the sum mer season. Our advantages are being adyer tised and it will he but a short time until Trenton will be known as the most popular inland summer report in the whole South. Itofs Frrin Jllorganville. It nas just quit raining and the weeds aie wet, so I can’t get out to the station. 1 will try and give you a few more dots from this place. Brother Witcher is with us holding a protracted meeting. He has just closed one in Sligo with one profession and six addition to the church. The prospect, seems to be favorable for a great deal of good being done here in the sav ing of souls. If our leading men would take an interest in the salva tion of these fouls there would be many flocking in after them, as their influence on the right side would accomplish great good. Now let us all resolve to cleave to that which is good and shun that which is evil. Our Sunday-school pier.ic las* Saturday passed off quite pleas antly. We had some good speak ing by Bro. Witcher and Piof. Webb, after which dinner was served. In the afternoon all was at liberty to follow the inclination of their own minds. Suceess to you, Ben, and voui paper.
