Hon.J. C. Clements is favorablys
mentioned as the pew inter
state commerce commissioner. So
mote it be.
The Atlanta Herald, under it
new management, fills a breech in
Georgia journalism much needed
in this sad hour of political disrup
tion.
The Chattanooga News reports
a Tennessee grape vine bearing ap
ples, but it does not follow ti.at a
Georgia Democrat will thrive on
a sub-treasury stem.
The time has arrived for the
press of Georgia to do away with
this “mealy mouthed” business
and take a stand square up in the
ranks of true Democracy.
The Lawrenceville sub-alliance
exhibits an independantism and
“nerve” calculated to elicit the ad
miration of all fair-minded people
We are “stuck” on the Lawrence
ville alliance.
I)r. Baldwin is one of the first of
the “immortal 94” to meet the con
demnation of the old soldier ele
ment of his constituency. If in
'eed, “misery likes company,” the
loctor will feel thoroughly ; atisfied
“in the sweet bye and bye.”
That part of the Ocala platform
declaring in favor of government
cortiol of railroads and the sub
tre isury scheme, when swallowed
is the transformation point be
tween a good democrat and a “what
not.”
The Georgia Legislature took a
jaunt to Savannah last week to
see if that city should have deeper
water, but about 9 ' members hav
ing taken to deep water before j
starting on the trip it is understood
that Savannah will not be benefit-!
bad by the vh it.

pride and satisfaction, and have

matters where .duty calls, is one of
the refreshing phases of jonanalis

“We’ll be there, oh, we’ll be
there,
In Georgia as elsewhere the ac
tion of the “immortal 94” who
voted against the acceptance of the
Confederate notnn by the stat ; was
regarded as a piece of “folly most
unwise.” We' are enaritable
enough to believe that the greater
number of the 94 voted coricient
iouslv and untrameled by the ac
tion of the alliance convention
but that an injustice has been
done the old confederate soldier
we will not attempt to deny. Of
course every man will give his
reasons for voting against the ac e -
tance of the home, but wiil an
outraged const ituenc}’ a input them

Lawrenceville, Sept. 1. —The
following resolutions adopted by
the alliance at this place have been
given out for publication :
“We, the Lawrenceville Alliance,
with sorrow express our surprise at
the action of the 94 representa
tives in voting against the “Con
federate Veterans home bill,”
which was tendered to the state
unconditionally and free of charge
the Confederate soldiers’ home
which ihe generous hearts of the
people of Georgia have erected for
the care and maintenance of the
destitute heroes ot' the Confeder
acy in their declining years. We
deem this an outrage upon every
true and loyal Georgian and a re
flection upon the old soldiers, and
deserving the severest denuncia
tion.
“Resolved, That it is with some
what indignant feelings that we
learn that Gwinnett’s representa
tives voted against the bill; that
they should so far forget their re
spect for the sentiments and wishes
of their constituents in the grand
old county ot Gwinnett, that fur
nished two thousand of as true
and brave heroes as ever confront
ed an enemy on the battlefield, as
to vote with the 94 against the ac
ceptance of said home.
“Resolved, That we desire the
world to know that they re
flect the sentiments and wishes of
this Alliance, and we believe of
the people of Gwinnet county, and
we utterly repudiate and condemn
their course.”

Nannie Angeline Bond, wife of
•J. P. Bond, aud daughter of Shade
Hale, died at her home in Trenton
Sept. 2nd, 1891, aged 53 years. She
had been a. great sufierer for years,
land her death was not altogether
'unexpected. .She quietly and
peacefully passed away, surround
ded by a host of friends and lela
tives. They ali have our heart
felt sympathy in their sad bereave
ment.
A Camp Hunt
John and Bunn McMahan, Pey
ton Pace, W. A. Bird, Orvill Ewing,
and B T. Brock composed the par

ain \\ odnesday loaded tor deer.
All necessary rations were car
ried out on horses.
Wednesday night a hard pine
floor was the only bed the hunters
had upon which to take a wel]
earned repose, Thursday evening
the party arrived in town with the
coming of a nard rain with a red
fox as a result of a two days hunt

Attention, Grand jurors
We h ave a hobby. It is an uu
qu< nehable desire to see Dalle co.
erecting go >d and substantial
bridges wherever needed within
1. . boundaries. Any other coun
ty in the slate would have built at
least two bridges where Dade coun
ty made no effort to build even a
temporary bridge. A grand jury
with full powers to recommend will
meet on the 3d Monday in this
month. Citizens of Dade are ex
pectant. What course will this
representative body of men follow
toward building these bridges?
