Only one man agreed with the “immortal 94.” KC’LPEH'R A Picnic At DeSota Falls. On Thursday, August 27th, Mr, and Mrs. J. L. White, of Sulphur Spring, Gii. , Misses Josie and Hen rietta Hale, and MissCieo Tidwell, of Rising Fawn, Ga.; Misses An nie, Mattie and Bailie White, Miss Lora Lowry and Mr. Forest Low ry, of Valley Head, Ala.; Miss Cotnam White,Joe Reese and John McCurdy, of Ft. Pavne, Ala.; Mr. Will White, of Chattanooga; Miss Walta Reaves, of Springville Ala.; Mrs. J. IT. Hardwick and Rev. W. P. Hanes, of Ash ville, N. G\, met at Valley Head at eight o’clock a. m. and went to DeSota Falls, four miles South-east of Valley Head, on Lookout Moun tain picnicing. DeSota Falls has been a selected place for picnics for many years and-is one ot the iovliest spots on earth’for a day of pleasure. There is an abundance of shade trees to make everything pleasant and comfortnblc,*and the scenery is unsurpassed. here are beautiful mos covered racks for seats and one can sit on the edge of the bluff and see the water of Lit tle river as it rushes over the pre cipic and plunges seething and foaming into the depths of 100 feet below where, there is a great basin in the rock about 400 feet long and 300 feet wide in which the water is standing to such a depth that no mortal has ever fathomed it. The natural rock houses a lit tle farther down lend enchantment to the scene. After spe r ding some time in sketching, sight seeing, mending the boat, and sheltering ourselves from die rain, we ate a good dinner prepared hv the hos pitable ladies ot our party and one we enjoyed as only hungry pienic ers can. After dinner J. S. White, who had his camera with him, made a photograph of the Falls and scenery, including the picnic party. Wo spent three hours in sight seeing and pleasure seeking, which was very much enjoyed by the young people of the party. At 3 o’clock, p m. we started for Valley Head, where we sorrowful ly bndaee ottn-r good bye and went to our several homes after spending a day long to he remem bered by each of us. DeSota. It. is the aim of the directors to raise fiftv thousand dollars for (he purpose of building a railroad from New England City out through White Oal> Gap to the company’s coal to open up the coal veins and to build coke ovens. Messrs. Tom Cummings, A, Brown, IL V. Tay lor and W. G. MorriNon agree to give $5,000 for this punoose. It is expected $5,000 more can be rais ed in Dade court rv and the remain der of the $50,000 to be raised in the east. Mr. Tom Cummings has gone to Boston to assist in getting up the subscription, and with his en ergy and persistent efforts he is almost sure to oucceed. The Dade county stockholders should do their part and we will see better days in old Dade. The procession accompanying the remains bf Mrs. J. P.
