Our New England article inthi*
iaaue, credited to the Chattanooga
New*, was a aurpriae to those who
read it and a grave injustice to
many individuals [connected with
the‘‘Trenton boom” ahd the New
England eompany respectively
The.fFamest advocate of the in
iereet of either place never dream
ed that the boom in which he was
interested died through the jealous
antics of those in his
rival town. That a certain degree
of jealously existed between the
two towns is undeniable, but to say
this feeling brought failure to
either, is an exaggeration prompt
ed by incincerity. The article of
our contemporary is like Trenton
and New England’s boom—the
foundation is rotten. Both towns
have the resources, and in the fu
ture we will profit by our past ex
perience and by a happy consolida
tionof mutual interests we will ri

Lead in Dade,
An oJ4 tradition has it tbat
“one* upon a time” a certain old
Indian, who oace reaided in tho vi
cinity of Riainj? Fawn, kept his
truaty flint well supplied with
leaden missiles supplied from
aw me vein of lead supposed to be
near by. To authenticate this tra
ditionary report, it has been ru
mored certain individuals
now living, could, if fancy dictat
ed, point out the exact spot in
which the precious mineral lay
hidden. W. L. Allison has, for
the paat few years, been prospect
ing in the mountains of Dade in
search of the lead he felt sure mutt
exist It seems that he had locat
ed a lead vein upon that part ef the
Ferjcins farm, now owned by T. Y.
Willis. In sinking his well. “I
Y.” happened to dig within a few
feet of the Allisop vein, and the
consequence has been the finding
♦if lead, although not in abundant
quantities. It .'is thought that a
shaft sink only a few feet from
the well would disclose a rich and
productive vein ef lead. We doubt

The independent “State pf Dade’
is preverbialy known as the ban
ner county of the state of Geergia.
Her produets surpass those of any
other county in beth quality and
quantity. One day last weejt John
McMahan’s game cocks scored a
victory over some fins chickens
fought by Atlanta parties. The
fight took place near Chattanooga,
and the Dade county bird won a
score of 7 to 5.
Beat Dade in anything and you
“beat the world and all that’s in
it.”
