Lunsford D. Frioks to his Inther.
Bobbing his head backward and
forward in the same way. There
is one little rogup, the english
sparrow, to whom whatever his
sins may be, we most give the crud
it tf a bold heart aDd the ability
of making himself perfectly at
home wherever his lot may fall.
In eighty.four, I think it was,
Tom Park showed me the first ar
rival in Rising Fawn. Be sat on
the old turn-table, cocking his
head first on one#de and then on
the other, peerijg under ihe eaves
of the depot giving a cherup
of speciald'- as he oted.

the same as Abraham’s when

'iiiat the land had been

£ Mine in Key West, on the
{©eta of Santiago Cuba, at every
way station across the Texas
and zona deserts; throughout
CalifornTs. it was the same, and in
he seemed to be just as
much at home. He greeted me
on my arrival in Manila, but for a
week after reaching 110-110, I fan
cied that he had been left behind ,
until one morning I heard a famil
iar voice and walked a block out of
my way to find a little family
group of six. One of the most
companionable little fellows that I
have met is alizzard; he is about
the size of a charnel ion and looks
like one, except his color, which is
brown. Eight or ten of them will
make your room their home, and
come out when you light the lamps
at night to walk around over the
wall or on your table looking for
bugs and moths. They make a
very pleasant chorus when they j
sing to each other, and aro in every
way good neighbors.
The great like of the year will
begin today; the 38th with one
thousand men cams down on the
Transport Warren lest week, and
with the 26th and a pait of the
18th already stationed here will
-try to clear off the island by clos
ing in from ever}’ side.
This scheme on paper lootes
beautitt.il, and if everything is to be
fish that comes to the nets, some
thing will certainly be caught, but
an insurrecto and an amigo look so
very very much alike that I doubt
any Americans ability to tell them
apart. Ihe majority of the men
wuo have been here sometime are
doubtful as to the result. It is so
easy for a man to hide his rifle and
become an amigo or pick up his
rifle and become an insurrecto.
But we all wait and hope that the
erd will come sometime.
