From State Department Sept. 20, 1901 $1,180.78

Total $3,183 32
I find that a deal of- the
dissatisfaction with the working
of the public schools of the county
is due to the fact that most of the
districts have very poor houses
with very few of tne accommoda
tions necessary for the success of
either teacher or pupils and that
too little interest is being mani
fested by the patrons of some dis
tricts. out am glad to say there has
been some improvement on these
lines and hope to see moie sub
stantial buildings with better
equipment and the hearty co-oper
ation of all the people in the near
future.

To the Honorable Grand Jury of

In'accordance with law I submit

Total amt paid out'for the year 1900 $3,736 12
Bal in Treas Mch 14th 1901, $2,652 89
The law also requires me at ths
term of the court to give to your
honorable body an estimated state
ment of what amount of taxes
shoald be levied for the ensuing
year. You will observe from above
statement of the finances of the
county for the past year, that the
expenditures exceed the amount
collected for the year, exclusive of
the road tax, in other words it is as
follows:
Amount received for all purposes, except road
tax $2,314.32
Amount paid out for all purposes except loud i
tax $2,522.83
Therefore to sustain the present
promptness in the pavment of the
expenses as they occrue, I would
suggest that $2,500 00 exclusive of
the road tax, would not be exbor
bitant. Thj amount of road tax I
leavr to your discretion .

" I’pe camp at Cole City oeing the

made a careful inspection of the

syrup and turnip greens, and we
find that the convicts are supplied
with plenty of above named arti

A'so we made a thorough inspec
