HORRIBLE MURDER.
At 8 o’clock this morning G. J.
Johnson killed l)r. A- T. Fricks at
Rising Fawn.
Details are meager and the news
comes just as we go to press.
Johnston, who has had a long
standing grudge against Dr. Fricks
shot him off Lis horse without
warning and Killing him almost
instantly.
It is reported that Johnston left
Rising Fav n at once and was com

The Weekly Republican publish
ed at Phoenix, Arizona, ssyp: It
was expected that before this time
the Phoenix Brewery association
would beat work on its proposed
plant in this city and local wor
shipers at the shrine of Bacchus
have expressed some disappoint
ment at the delay. Mr. Tom Gray
came to the fiont manfully yes
terday and announced that he was
free to confess that he had blocked
the whole game and that, only for
him Phoenix would now be mak
ing beer a | Jenty. He came down
here about the first of July and in
less than a week got married. One
reformation suggested another and
in a twinkling he was weaned from
the stone mug and bad transferred
his patronage to the Maricopa
creamery. He drinks nothing but
buttermilk now and he drinks all
he wants of if. Anyone who has
ever tried to satisfy his thirst
knows to his financial sorrow what,
the effect of this sudden :cforma
tion would naturally tie on a brew-
ery enterpiise that hud to depend
in any considerable measure upon
local support. But that is not n.l
of it. , Tom Lad a mine bonded
and i therefore able at the present,
time fo buy and pay l< i ail the
buttermilk his system demands.
The same course of rea.-oning that
brings the above conclusion will
tell the reader what th * effect ot
bis patronage must be on the
creamery company. Mr. Gray
could have told himself but. he
never stopped to think till he nich
ed into the creamery the other dav
with his buttermilk growler under
his arm and saw all the directors
of the enterprise in dei j; medita
tion: Ho at once jumped P the
conclusion that they were declar
ing a dividend and he is now pon
dering on where he is going to land
in the mining business. He has i
often heard it said that mining
developed the agricultural resour
ces of the country but only lately
his it dawned on him that he is a I
direct pipe line between a gold !
ledge and a cow.
