A Prominent Phynlclan.
A prominent New York physician
in discussing the merits of Ripans
Tabules with a brother M. D. said :
“Several years ago I asserted that
if one wished to become a philan
thopist, and do a beneficent deed—
one that would help the whole hu
man race—nothing could be better
than to procure the Roosevelt Hos
pital prescription, which is the basis
of the Ripans Tabules . and cause it to
be put up in the form of a ketchup
ana distributed among the poor.

A reporter who went there to learn
how Ripans Tab

bought a ftve-cent

“Do you have
much call for
these ? ”
He was referred
to a gentleman who

“ The sale of Ripans Tabules is
constant and is increasing, duo
especially to the influ witial character
of the testimonials ir. t he dailv press,
and growing out of these, through
the recommendation of friend to
friend. Satisfaction with them ie
very general. When once they are
begun I notice th; % a permanent
customer for them U made. This. 1

merit, which proves the bona fide
character of the advertising. I think
them specially useful in the general
run of stomach troubles.”

An elderly lady living at Fordham

said to a reporter who visited her for
the purpose of learning the particu

the last occasion I had for one, but
at that time obtained no beneficial
results. I had never bad any faith
In patent medicines, but having seen
Ripans Tabules recommended very
highly in the New York Herald con

found they were just what my case
demanded. I have never employed

testimonial which should parade her
name in the newspapers, but to do
this the elder lady argued : ‘There
may be other cases just like mine,
and I am sure I take great pleasure
in recommending the Tabules to any
one afflicted as I was. If the tolling
about my case in the papers enables
some other person similarly affected
to be as greatly benefited as I have
been, I see no objection." The daugh

about the benefit she had received,
decided she was quite right.

HANNA’S INFLUENCE BAD.
New Orleans Tirnes-Democrat.
This is neither the time nor the
place to appraise ihe value of Mr.
Hanna’s services to his party, or
to estimate the influence of his
ethical standards and his political
methods upon the national life.
In the judgements of millions of
his couutrymei. both the stand
ards he has set up and he has em
ployed have been hostile to the
permanent peace, happiness and
prosperity of the American people.
'lhe opposition aroused by his
revolutionary tactics has not, we
believe, leeu confined to the party
which has fought him at the polls.
There has been plentiful evidence
that the men of light and leading
in his own party —the men who
represent its conscience, its char
acter. its oulture and its intelli
gence —have chafed under the
galling yoke they have been com
pelled to wear throughout the Mc-
Kinley administrations. So keen
and formidable indeed bad this
resentment grown that it became
clear months ago that, though the
Republican rank and file might
support Mr. McKinley for presi
dent, they would rebel against the
continued leadership and contin
ued domination of Mr. Hanna in
the national government.—Ex.
