Sadly gazing oui at the dying leaves that only have a -liori tuue to live, we are reminded of th poet’s beautiful lines: “ The melonchol v days have come, The saddest of the ytar,” And are convinced" that he felt and knew what he was writing. Despite the “tneliincholiness,” the days are just glorious—nice ami warm, and somewhat like Indian summer. And the nights are just right for revival meetings, hunting possums and stealing chickens. Ero. Evans has recently been holding re vival meetings in our town, and the people are interested in him, because ho knows how to preach. lie is going to Oregon soon, and, from recent talk, we, are led 10 believe that several ol Ascalon’s good peo ple w ill soon follow. Of course, we will hate to give them up, hut, as they have the “Oregon fever,” we suppose that is the only cure. Mr. Howard Bryan is shortlo to move Mr. Allgood's saw mill front W. A. Cham bers place to Dillon, Ga., where he will saw, we presume, Misses Sallie and Annie Cross, two of Morganville’s charming young ladies, recently visited relatives at this place. There was an interesting show at High Point school house Friday night, in which I the battle of San Juan was shown. It was very impressive, and all present seemed to have enjoyed themselves immensely. I'nere will be preaching at High Point school house next Saturday night and Sun day by- Rev. Evans. Ignoramus. Chambers of Ascalon, was seen in our burg Wednesday afternoon. M Si.co. A Pair of Pants. Pants are made for men and not for wo men. Women are made for men and not for pants. When a man p ints for a wo man and a woman pants for a man, they are a pair of punts. Such pants don’t last. Pants are like molasses—ihey are thinner in hot weather and thicker in cold. Men are often mistaken in pants, such mistakes are breeches of promise. There has been much discussion wbelli rpauts is singular or plural. Seems to us when men wear pants it is plural, and when they don’t wear pants it is sir.guhir. Men go on a tear in their pants, and it is all right: when the pants £ o on a tear it is all wrong. If you want to make pants Jast, make the coat first.—Exchange.
