Mo.-t.oe, April 23.???Henry Curry was
brought from AUanU j??H yesterday morning
by Sheriff Ammons and bis deputy, W. W.
Nowell. He was h??avlty Ironed and attracted
much attention. A large crowd of negroes

"How'dy, Henry," was heard from a hun
dred voices. He talked freely to them; told

it again; that he was ready to die and wanted

the following details of the recent Shendy
massacre*: Three hundred Egyptian troops
and (iOO non-combatants, preferring to make
tho hazardous attempt to march to Berber
to starving InaideofSnendy, set out from tho
latter placeon the 15th Inst. Partof the num
ber went slowly by steamer down the river,
while others marched along tbe river bank.
Wh-n two hours distant from Shendy,
they were attacked by the
Arabs, and after a short
fisbt all the troops excepting a few were
mareacred. The Arabs afterward captured
Shendy. The Egyptian troops there had
escaped with their arms and uniforms iu tbe
botie ol being spared. A few houses escaped
the general massacre. Two hundred nteo,
women and children were slaughtered.
Many of them were refugees from Khar-
tOUDl.

morning at the British consulate in Cairo, at

and General Sir Evelyn Wood, commander-
