1???ittshuro, Fa, April 28.???The mining
troubles in Hooking Valley, Ohio, are incress-
i-g A hitter feeling against the operators
he- sprung up in that regiou. On Saturday
a circular adm eased to the miners in Uocklnf
Valley was circulated by the Columbus and
Hocking coal and iron company and the
Ohio coal exchange. This circular states that
the markets df those operators hare been
taken from them by the Pittsburg coal, and
the Indiana Block coal mines have accepted
the reduction of IS cents per ton. The Hock
ing Valley operators cannot compete. The
circular holds that various other points in
Obi) are enabled by lower rates for mining
to abut oat the Hocking Valley coal.
Tncrefore the oieratora claim that
they must have a reduction
iu price in mining or be compelled to abut
down their mines during the summer. The
men have held a meeting and decided to
strike rather than accept the reduction. The
operators hero threatened to import Hun-
S rians and Italians, and the men declare
at no foreigners will be allowed in the
mines. If strangers are taken it ia feared
there will lie trouble, as the sympathy of the
people Is with the miners. At Irwin s sta
tion, I???a., 2,000 miners who struck ten days
ago resumed work this morning, the West
moreland coal company yielding to their
demands to remove the one Inch screen.
Dr* Hotaia, It., April 28.???Information
bat been received here of the brutal murder
of Hiram Jelleraon, near Anderson, this
stale. Jelleraon was Sll years of sgesnd lived
with his wlfo on a farm. Saturday night
four men entered their bed room, dragged
them from bed and pulled the old man???s hair
and whiskers out b; the roots. They theu
wrapped his abirt about hia bead, dragged
hltu naked to a tree and hanged him
Mm. Jelleraon came to the door and tried to
alarm the neighbors, the nearest of whom
lived about 400 yards away, but tho murder
ers, who bad finished their work and started
to ride away, prevented her by threatening
to hang her abo. There is no clue lo the
perpetrators of the crime, as the night waa
too dark for Mn Jelleraon to distinguish
their leaiures. There are strong suspicions
that some of his family arc mixed up In the
murder. His daughter's husband, John
Smyth, a hard character, it freely charged
with the crime. It Is alio supposed that the
old man???s own son Cicero, is one of the party
who did the hanging.
The eon and son lu-law of the murdered
man have confessed the deed.
