James And Alfred McCollough, for the mur

for the murder of Lou Gi filth, were hong
day by Sheriff Ollreath, at the uiual plaoo ap
pointed by law. It seldom happens that three
men expiate their liras on the gallows at one
time, and especially so the ead spectacle of
atber and son. A rumor spread throughout
the country that the execution would be pub
lie, and from early morn the streets were
thronged with people. Broad street, on which
the jail is located, was one moving male
humanity. The Butler and the Oreenville
Guards were ordered out for duty, and kept
the square surrounding the jail clear of all
persons.
THS DOOHKO MEM,
The doomed men ate a hearty breakfast and
rested well during last night. As tbo clock
in the belfry of the city ball chimed in boI
earn monotones the hour of twelve Sheriff
Gilrealh and a strong guard accom
panied by the Rev. J B Middleton
the doomed men and their attorney, J.
Nix, filed into the jail yard and ascended the
scaffold. Bherlff Gilreath thereupon sskcil
them if they desired to say anything.
Riley Anderson, in a stammering, inandi
ble tone, said be did not kill Lou GrIOltb and
that be was ready to die.
The McCulloughs said they had killed
Kphrisnr Saxon, but declared that God had
forgiven them for the crime.
The hymn
"Father I atroteh my hand to Thee,
No other help I know,???
Was sung very feelingly. Rev. Goodlett,
colored, then offerm up a fervent prayer and
the benediction was pronounced by Rev. J. B.
Middleton. The ministers then bade theta

into eternity. The drop took place at 12:21
o'clock and twenty-seven minutes after

the attending physician, W. R. Jones, They
were cut down by order of the sheriff, and
