m THE WEEKLY CONSTITUTION: ATLANTA, TUESDAY, JUNE 17, 1884.???TWELVE PAGES. MATED FOR LIFE. BILL ARP Do Xlumenates Over Lore, Courtship snd Harrises -What Married Life Should Bo-Country Marriages Happior Than Those In the City???Raisin* the Little Onos. Married and gone. It is the same old story, Lore and courtship. Then come* the engage went ring and a blessed interval of fond hope* and happy dream* and then the day is fixed??? tho itu*picious day that Is never to be forgotten ???a day that bring* hnppinc** or misery and begin* a new life. Then come* the license, the permit of the law which says you may marry, you may enter into bonds. The state ap' prove* it and the law altows it and it will coat you only a dollar and a quarter. Cheap, aint it, and yet it may be very dear. Then comot the minister, and the happy pair stand up be fore him and make some solemn vows and listen to a prayer and a benediction, and they are one. In a moment the trusting maid ha* lost her name and her free will and is tied fast to a man. Well, ho is tied fust, too, so it is all right all round I reckon, but somehow 1 nl way* feel more coucern about the woman than the man. She is a helpless sort of a creature and takos the most risk, for she risks her all. We gave him a cordial welcome into the family, and we kissed her lovingly and bade them good-bye, and the children threw a ???bower of rice over them and an old shoo after them, and they were soon on their way to tho land of flowers. She was not our child but was almost, for Mr*. Arp was the only mother she ever knew and we love her. j sut in my piazza ruminating over tho scene and I wondered that there were as many hap py mating* a* there seem to be. Partner* lor life ought to he congenial and harmonious in no many things. When men make a partner ship in busilie** they cant get along well if thev are unlike in disposition or in moral prin ciple, or in business way* and business habits. But they can dissolve and separate ut pleasure and try auother man. A man and his wife ought to he alike in most everything. It is said that folks like their opposite, their counterparts, and so they do in some ro*j??cct*. A man with jduo eyes goes mighty nigh distracted over a woman with hazel eyes. 1 did, ami I'm distracted yet whenever 1 look into them. But in mental qualities and emotional qualities and taste* and habits and principles and conviction* and the like they ought toelass together. Indeed it is belter lor them to have the same politics and the same religion. And so 1 have observ ed that the happiest unions as a general thing are those where the high contracting parlies have known each other for a long turns and have assimilated from their youth in thought and feeling. When a man goes off hi some watering place and waltzes a few time* with a charming girl and falls desperately in lovuand marries her oil'hand, it is a long shoot and a narrow chance for happiness. Why, wo may live in the snme town with people and not know o* much about them ns wo ought to. 1 never made any mistake about iny choice of a partner for the dance of life, but I've thought of it n thousand times that if Mrs. Arp Imd known I loved codfish and got ui?? by day break every morning she never would nave had mo. It wats nit?? and tuck to get her anyhow and that would hove been the feather to break the camel's burl;. Well, I???m mortal glad she dident know it. though 1 am free to suy that if 1 Imd known she sleid until the second ring ing of the first hell tor breakfast amt was fond of raw oysters, it would hove Imd A dampuing in life and know what they are Don???t Die In the House, about. There is no goodlier sight "Rough on Rots" clears out rata, mice, intill nature than to sec n good looking roaches, bed-bugs,flies,ants moles, chipmunks, healthy young man who is making an honest gophers. 15c. living stand up at the altar with a pure sweet ??? good, tempered ,nffcctunateIndustrious girl and Twine bonnet* are the latest English nov- thc parents on both sides approving the match. ??? elty.
