CROP RKV??ORT.
The Report for Mny of tli?? Department of
Agriculture.
Commissioner Henderson, of the department of
agriculture, has prepared the crop report of the
department for May. The opinion of the depart
ment on the condition of the crop of the several
principal products, prepare*! from carefully com
plied statistics, is submitted as follows:
CORN.
The condition of the crop in north Georgia com
pared to this time last year, is 93; in middle Geor
gia,'At; in southwest Georgia, 98; in cast Georgia,
101; in southeast Georgia, 102; and in the whole
state, 98.
The crop ho* been kept back by the low temper
ature of the month of May. The cold has also fa
vored the destructive work of the bud womb by
which the stand has boon injured on low fifOUtubi.
Notwithstanding these casualties IhoAWfllge con
dition for the state Is seven per cent better than
last year and but two per cent Mow an average.
The dry May has favored the ptoper cultivation of
the land and the crop is considered in promising
condition.
The yloMot this crop when harvested compared
to an nvcrwte yield; f?? northwest Georgia0:1, mid
dle Georgia'70, southwest Georgia 77, east Georgia

The prospective yield where not harvested,
compared to an average, in north Georgia is

east Georgia in southeast Georgia 73, and in
the whole rintc, 72.
The hart*:*ted portion of the crop Is confine*! in
most of tk???e state to the fall sowing. In north Geor
gia a very small portion of the crop was ready to
cut at this dato (June 1st). -???
