At this atage of tho proceedinga Mr. Bab cock, of California, who had nominated Dr. McDonald, came to the platform and aaid Me- DonaM was for tho cause, and not for self. He, Mr. Babcock, had presented the name and it had been cordially received by tho convention, but he was satisfied that tho temper of tho convention and tho interest of the cause demanded the with drawal of Dr. McDonald's name. He there fore withdrew it, and cordially seconded the nomi nation of Ht. John. [Cheers.] Mr. Pierce, of Pennsylvania, also withdrew the nomination of Mr. Black, and that of Mr. (Uewart was withdrawn by the Maine delega tion, with the remark that Maine kept step t j tho music of the uniou.
