Cortersville Free Tress: A dance was given on
Leake street Tuesday night, by one of the colored
society Isdlts of the town. Alt the colored dudes
and ebony belles of the city were present, and

pleasure of the evening until about 12 o'clock,
when Allen Thomas got into a dispute with Tom

air. On Investigation it waa found that Allen
Thomas Itsd shot Tom Reed In the leg. After
firing the shot Allen rsn away and has not been
heard flora since. The wound Is not dangerous
as It entered the leg and was small shot.
Dawson Journal: Mr. W. K Harrell and Miss,
If. K. Garrett, of thU county, were married last
Bnnfiay morning by Judge J. M. Nfmmoos, in hi*
wan-house in tula city. For some cause, Mr. Gar*
R tt was opposed to the marriage of the couple
it they had decided that they wanted to, and
starry they did. On Suuday morning a friend of
Mr. Ilarreil called to take If 1m Garrett to ride,
while Mr. Harrell went after another young lady

the knot tied as told above. The married couple
immediately left for the home of the groom's fath

Mr. J. It. Taylor, of Longstrect, In Pulaski coun
ty, has been milking ten cows. Dome days ago ho

A Murderer Arrested

Robe rt Usher, alias Thomas Fulton, waa arrested
here Unlay by M. D. L. Ooagcr, sheriff of thU
county, upon a requisition from the governor of
Texes, charged with the offense of murder. Usher
came to this place abont three years ago and clerk
ed several montha, after which ho commenced
merchandising. He made an assignment last
January, making Ms wife preferred creditor, who
bought his stock ot good*, since which time he
has been acting aa agettt tor hla wife. Usher was
turned over to C. C. Hcaga, deputy sberilTof Rich

nominated Dr. U. L. Watkins to represent the
county In the next legislature. Dr. Watkins is
