Courtright was well-known here, having served as state ranger, detec. tire and city marshal, and was regarded os one of the quickest men on the trigger in Tex as. The arrest* were made under New Mexican warrants and a requisite from Governor Ireland, of Texas, whou the fact of Courtright???* arrest was discovers _ great excitement and indignation prevailed) and 1,500 persons assembled at tho Iiotcl where Courtright was con fined and prevented the officers from Inking the night troth. It was with great dif ficulty that the crowd were prevented from rescuing Courtright, but he was Anally carried to the county jail. A writ of habeas corpus lias been sworn out. The Jim McIntyre, accuscd'with Courtright,who was arrested Huturday at Wichita Fails, was brought to this city last night. There was a great crowd at tho depot. It now transpires that tho men wero not wanted for tho murder of tho Mexicans at Silver City, hut for tho kil ling of two Americans named XJoestsdt, near Albuquorque, whom they nro charged 'with Laving first arrested as officers ot tho law, and then deliberately murdered??? thorn.' He was raptured by a farmer and returned to the villago. It was nt once seen thatho was a raving maniac. During the night, without tho least provocation, ho had shot his wife af ter sending the children to bed. Both barrels of tho gun wero discharged, and the wife???* body was terribly mutilated. The man find in his night clothes nnd was almost frozen when captured. The people worked hard for several hour* to oave their property.
