Warren Price had been confined in Sander*- villa jail for aafe keeping. Veaterda/ after noon Sheriff Burnt, of Jobnacn count/, with eleven guards armed with shot guns, left Wrigbttville for Sandenville to obtain Price, at it waa feared that an attempted release would be made of Price, such plan having Burna, guard and Price reached n ngnuvuie to-day at noon, having encoun tered no opposition en route. Price came peaceably and calmly. He conversed with the sheriff the entire wi with whom he rode in a buggy. raica???a i.aat sight. Last night Price slept well in the Sanders- villa jail, ate a heart/ breakfast thia morning, and when be reached Wrightsville wis { riaccd in jail, where he was visited by aevaral riends, bis brothers and Tax Coxstitutiok reporter, to whom he freely conversed. He ???aid he was satisfied ai to hit future, havini rested bis soul with God. Trice would no) directly admit that he killed Perry, but vir tually confessed it, saying what he did be lelt bit conscience and heart approved, and the deed waa prompted by self- defense to protiet his family from death at Perry's bands, and hit house from destruction by fire. Price said the only dread he had in dying waa leaving his helpless wife and five children, who are poverty stricken. Price's aged brothers wept sorely over him in day, the gray heads making a truly i picture. He begged his brothers to 1 body decently buried in the old family burial ground???ten miles distant from Wrightsville, and three ruilea from the late home of Price and the scene of tbo recent tragedy. The weather was iu keeping with the hanging, a constant drixsllng raiu. Much sympathy has been expressed for I Price, ami as be stood ou tho gal white locks aud long gray benrd floating in the wind, many thought Mandal Powell, the man who debauched Price's daughter, and drove It cm onus H. Perry to hia doom, should be standing in Warren Price???s place, and made to suffer this fate, it is the opinion of all that Powell and Price's daughter Instigated Price H HH * ' v, Perry. They are mor few. His lot was an envied one. One day, however, he was told that Mandal Powell, his old rival, had been seen entering his house. He indii knocked home, however, the thought kept uppermost in bfs mind, notwithstanding hia efforts to re press it. When he reached home bis wife met | him at the gate with a warm kiss, and all I thought of infidelity disappeared. During the evening he mentioned Powell???s name, when, for the first time, his wife flew into an unac countable passion, accusing her husband ol unreasonable jealousy. A few tears, a few [ kisses, and tbo pair were happy in each other???s love again. DESERTED IsY BIS WIFE. With a light heart, Mr. Perry set out next I rooming on a business trip to WrighteviUe, About five that evening he returned, but was surprised that his wife did not meet him at the gate. On entering the house all was still and ne felt a death chill come over him. On the lid ol tha organ he saw a note, v tearing open wildly, he read as follows: ???Komanufc???I have tone home You watch mo j too closely. I will never live with you again. Good bye forever. Jr.it For a moment he atood as one distracted. Why his wife should have treated him thus | waa a mystery. A colored servant told him that Mrs. Price had come and taken her daughter away. The crated husband went to the house of his fatber-in-law, but was ordered away. Subsequently the word came to him | that Mandal Powell, his hated rival, was liv ing with Jennie with all the privileges of a husband and with the full sanction and ap proval of the girl'j parents. Indeed, it was lor this purpose that they borne of her huibi Ml'RDKIED ST HU The night of the 27th of August, 18.82, was I bright and clear. Terry walked up and down the road which ran past his deserted home in gloomy meditation. At last muttering to hirn- ???ell that he must at least see his wife once mere, be started out for the i'ric# residence. When he approsched the house, his 'ather-in- law, aa If in waiting for him, was standing at | the front door with a shotgun. As soon as he recognized who waa coming he commanded him to desist, Perry continued to advance. Quick as thought Mr. Price brought i to bla shoulder and fired. Perry fell groan, and by the time the inmates of the house had rushed to him ho was dead. Standing in a loving attitude, looking at the < dead man, waa the guilty wife and her para- nx-ur. The crime created nn unbounded sen sation. The position of the families, the scan dalous connivance of a father and mother with tb#ir daughter's shame, the ago and venerable apnenranro of the murderer, all conspired to j give interest to tho tragedy. CORVICTKD AND HEXTkNCr.fi TO DEATH. Price waa arrested and triod before the March term, 1883, of Johnson superior court. He bad among hia counsel some of the most eminent lawyers of the state. He entered up on hia trial surrouoded by his four brothers. The appearance of tho five mon, with their flowing white boards, was most striking. Tho proof ou all points was clear and conclusive. The prisoner sat listening to the ovidence with tbo utmost indifference. Only once did ho change countenance. When the suit of | clothes in which his son-in-law was murdered, besmeared with blood, was held up bofore the jury. Price looked upon it moment, and then turnod away hia face with a sickening amilo.
