an Intemperate sermon he preached against tho
uso of tobacco. Seeklug tho support ot great
names for his prohibitory theories, he cited that
ot Daniel Webster. But the fact is that Mr. Webster
used tobacco moderately for smoking, and even
for chewing, during tbogreater part of his life, and
was guilty ol[ aome verses In praise of it. In his
old age Mr. Webster’s favorite preparation for
I chi wing was one called "Anderson’s Solace,"
On September 22,1801, Mr. Webster wrote as fob
lows to his friend and classmate, Mr. Bingham:
