If the people can banish whiskey
from their county they can banish
dogs. Bad as whiskey is, it is an an
gel of light by tlm bed.of a boy dying
from the bite of a mad dog.
It is authoritatively stated by a
farmer who tried it, that four sue
cessive years cultivation in cotton of
land troubled with nut, grass will ef
fectually kill it. Not one year, mark
you, but four. Try it.
Let two men stop a man in the
street, riding in a buggy, one who is
not often riding, and talk earnestly to
him a few minutes, and a dozen or
two others will come up just as natur
ally as chickens do when the hen
clucks over a n«w found bug.
The Central, as was proper, has put
a freight train on the branch between
Gordon and E&tonton. A passenger
coach is attached to the train. Com
ing this way it reaches Milledgeville
at 9:15 a. in., and returning from Ea-
tonton arrives here at 4:25 p. m. daily.
The country stores are doing a good
business. Since no whiskey can be
obtained in the city, laborers have no
desire to come to town and they make
their purchases from the country
stores. Labor has improved and i
stock is in better condition than ever
known at this season of the year.

A lady who is authority in such
matters ’ says, no good, genteel wo
man need change her gown more
than twice in one day, unless the ev
ening requires a party dress. We
can’t seethe use of changing it at all.
If a woman puts on a decent dress in
the morning, there is no good reason
why she shouldn’t wear it all day.
There never was a prettier season
than the past month has offered for
laying In a winter's supply of wood or
coal. Cotton picking has kept the
wood haulers busy at home the past
six weeks, but the wise will not wait
until bad weather forces the wood
haulers into market, when the price
is sure to be high. Contract for your
wood now, if you can’t get it hauled
at present.
Our side-walks at the business cen
tre of the city are now in good order,
except- a few spots on Wayne street,
between Hancock and Greene, and
these will be attended to very soon.
If our worthy street superintendent
■wantk a rain, certain and sure, lie lias
only to goto work and dig up all the
lirm, hard earth sidewalks, and there
will he a rain in twenty-four hours
afterwards that will furnish mud
enough to run two or three brick
yards like Foster & McMillan’s. At
least such ha* been the experience of
past years.

THIS IS THE SEASON
When Whiskey comes frequently in
to requisition as medicine. Adulte

adulterated Drugs, and the effect on
the system is precisely the same—it
