shower or so, between now and 4th

crops of cotton, corn, peas, &c, ever
seen in Georgia.”

Macon is threatened with an ice
famine. Thirty tous a day is all that
is available to supply 40,000 people.
All the cities within 200 miles of Ma-

except Milledgeville, whose factory
turns out enough good, solid ioe for
herself and also ships her neighboring
cities some.
One of the dummy engines is in Au
gusta for repairs; hence one engine
will have to do all the work of trans
porting people to the park to-day, to
attend the Masonic celebration. It
has been suggested, and it is a good
suggestion, that the people on tbe
hill, between Central R. R. and park,
take tbe regiVte train from depot for
the park and trips will be made reg
ularly thereafter.

the Board are expected to be present.
The Oil Kill.
The business manager of tbe Oil
and Fertilizer Company. Mr. W. S.
Brooks, started up his milt again last
week. After the farmers had secured
a stand of cotton, they had some seed
left. These reuiuants of seed were
purchased by Mr. Brooks, and enough
thus secured to keep tbe mill running
a week or two. A good price will be
obtained for the oil now being nianu-
i factured.
selfish citizens, whose purposes are to
build up the town. They are in the
zenith of their strength, prosperity
and usefulness, and If their good in
tentions arc to blossom and bear
fruit there should be no delays. Of
‘ urse plans must be made with
"oner deliberation and wisdom; but
nostponements and delays ase the
most fruitful sources of failure in the
lives of men and communities. Let
the work begin.
An Insurance Company.
Milledgeville is plucky: She is just
the liveliest little town in all Geor
gia. But she ought to have an In
surance company.
Just read:-“Co)umbus is to have an
other local insurance oompany with a
capital stock of $300,000. They rea
lize the folly of sending large sums of
money away from home, when home
companies can give equal facilities for
insurance, better rates and keep at
home the large amounts which are
annually sent away for premiums.—
Americus Times.
Just, see how an Insurance company
pays: The Athens Mutual Co. recent
ly declared a dividend of 75 per cent.
Let Milledgeville get a charter from
the next Legislature and inaugurate
a splendid Home Insurance Company.
Baptist Church.
The work of putting in the pews in
the Baptist Church is progressing
very satisfactorily. For a short time
yesterday we watched the work. Mr.
Barrett was present and was so kind
as to show us how nice and comfort
able the seats are. They are high in
the back and adjusted so as to make
sitting on them very restful. They
are painted very neatly, and when
the work is completed it will make
glad the hearts of this congregation on
account of the many drawbacks they
have had to encounter.
We learn that everything will be
in readiness for prayer meeting to
night.
fire at MIDWAY.
Od last Friday morning about 2
o’clock, tbe residence and store of Mr.
J T Farell at Midway was destroyed
bv lire. The fire originated in the
store and the entire stock Including
books» id accounts and about twen
ty-live dollars in money, was destroy
ed The residence caught from the
store, and although by this time the
neighborhood was aroused and every
effort was made to save it, it shared
the same fate. The entire loss a-
mounted to about two thousand dol
lars There are many evidences that
the "fire was of incendiary origin for
the purpose of robbery, but no clue
has been obtained. Mr. Farell has
the sincere sympathy of tbe commu
nity in his loss, which represents the
accumulation of years. He had a
very small insurance on the buildings.
