We copy elsewhere in this paper
an article from the Charleston
News and Courier about the Middle
Georgia Military and Agricultural
College located in this city. We
thank the Courier for its kind
words.
The article has already began to

of the College, has received a letter
from Mr. W. H. Bethea, of Marion
C. H., who states that he had read
the article and desired to enter his
two boys in our College. The fame
of our College is rapidly extending

a grand future awaits it.
Death of Mrs. Mary S. Rhodes.
On Tuesday last, Mrs. Mary S.
Rhodes, widow of the late Mr. L.
B. Rhodes, died at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Henry Spier, in Ma
con, after a brief illness of pneu
monia. She was about fifty-two
years of age. With true motherly
devotion, she had left her own home
and gone to the home of her daugh
ter who was ill with pneumonia,—
After nursing her daughter to re- j
turning health, she was stricken '
with the same disease. All that
medical skill and the loving care of
children and relatives could accom
plish, failed to save her from the re
lentless Destroyer.
She was an affectionate mother,
a kind neighbor and an excellent
Christian woman. Her death leaves
her home desolate and creates a
void in a loving circle of relatives
and friends that can never be filled.
She was a sister of Mr. Leighton
Sewell and Mrs. Peter Bracken.—
She leaves five children—two sons,
Messrs. L. B. and Chas. Rhodes—
and three daughters. Mrs. Spier and
Misses Nonie and Jessie Rhodes.
Tile funeral services of Mrs.Rhodes
were held at First Street Metho
dist church, (of which she had been
a member from childhood,) on Fri
day morning. The large attend
ance, on an inclementday, testified
the hearty esteem in which the de
ceased was held. She has many rel
atives and friends in this city who
sympathise deeply with the afflict
ed family in their sad bereavement

Potato, Vick’s Perfection.
This variety lias been grown and
thoroughly tested, and the report
comes from every quarter that it is
one of the finest potatoes for general
purposes. Its wonderful productive
ness, fine appearance and good cook
ing qualities have made it a great fa
vorite wherever known. _Tlie tubers
grow compact in the hill, and are
large and uniform in size, oblong in
clining to oval, but generally flatten
ed. Color white, with tinge of pink
around the eyes, similar to the He
bron. The vine is of strong vigorous
growth, yet stocky and short jointed,
maturing almost the same time as
White Star. The introducer of tins
Potato, James Vick Seedman, Roches
ter, N. Y., says it will prove of great
value for field culture and become
verv popular. .
